How do we think Suffolk would perform at International level 10:22 - Jun 7 with 3752 views | GeoffSentence | When you think that it has a population nearly twice as large as Iceland and with a big football culture. Would be light years ahead of the likes of Gibralter, San Marino and Lichtenstein and ahead the likes of Luxembourg and Montenegro. What chance Suffolk could over achieve Iceland style

How do we think Suffolk would perform at International level on 18:20 - Jun 8 by PhilTWTD | Jon Sammels ought to be in the running for a place on the bench. Richard Money was from Lowestoft, so ought to get a mention in this thread if he hasn't already. |
Terry Butcher was from Lowestoft. However, being born in Singapore makes it less clear whether he would qualify. Which leads to the question what are the qualifying criteria? If it is ever lived in Suffolk or lived a minimum number of years we could field a very handy side, I am sure. Once the criteria are clear, what would the current best side be? I doubt they are all playing at as high a level as the current Welsh side. I wonder how it would compare with the level of Gibraltar or Leichenstein. But doesn't that then show how a well-organised team that are used to playing together can become very difficult to beat even without having particularly good players?

How do we think Suffolk would perform at International level on 20:16 - Jun 9 by Libero | Hmmm, who would we have, realistically? Can we even get a solid starting eleven out? Nick Pope, GK - Newcastle United Liam Bennett, DR - Cambridge United Luke Woolfenden, DC - Ipswich Town Matt Clarke, DC - Derby County Harry Clarke, DL - Ipswich Town Joe Morrell, MC - FREE AGENT Liam Gibbs, MC - Norwich City Josh Stokes, AMR - Bristol City Andre Dozzell, AMC - Portsmouth Maculey Bonne, AML - Bristol Rovers Chris Martin, CF - Bristol Rovers SUBS: Dylan Crowe, DR - King's Lynn Michael Morrison, DC - Cambridge United Connor Hall, DC - Port Vale Luke McCormack, MC - Bristol Rovers Tyler French, DC - Sutton United Am I missing anyone obvious? |
Tyreece Simpson is good enough for tbat bench. And Brett McGavin plays at a higher level than Dylan Crowe.

I thought Simpson was from Lecistershire for some reason and I’m pretty sure McGavin is from Cambridgeshire, used to see him on the train when he was in the Academy.

Interesting question about the criteria. Having read the thread I was surprised to see no mention of Simon Milton. I checked his Wikipedia page and he was born in London. When the teenage Simon and his family moved out of London they landed in Thetford where he started his football career. He had unsuccessful trials with Norwich City and Cambridge United before being spotted by Ipswich playing for Bury Town. So, someone who at first glance you'd think would be a shoo-in for the Suffolk side is not qualified for this theoretical team. Were I a decent enough footballer I guess I would qualify, having been born in Bury even though my mum lived in Thetford at the time.

Not always to be trusted of course, but Wikipedia has McGavin as born in Bury St E., which seems quite likely as his father (who is definitely 'from' Bury, though born in Norfolk) was playing for Colchester at the time. [Post edited 13 Jun 11:41]

Are we just assuming that Suffolk becomes a 5th-British Nation (and a FIFA member), then would we follow the Home Nations eligibility rules? "1. His country of birth. 2. The country of birth of his natural mother or father. 3. The country of birth of his natural grandmother or grandfather. 4. Where the player, both natural parents, and both natural grandparents are born outside the UK, but the player is the holder of a current British passport, he may play for the country of his choice." Part 4 makes Janoi Donacien eligible, which is pleasing. [Post edited 13 Jun 12:18]

I saw his Dad play a few games for Bury Town at the end of his career, so makes sense!
