Burnley back in the prem 09:39 - Jun 12 with 1056 viewsblueasfook

I will be interested to see if they can get a foothold in the league this time around. They have basically done what we hope to do next season and return straight back to the premier league, hopefully with lessons learned and wiser for it. If they go down again, it will be concerning that the gap between Championship and Premier League is pretty much insurmountable IMO.

Indeed. There’s a general view that you need to yo-yo to become established. Has anyone actually done that lately? We should all have half an eye on how they get on.

There isn't really anyone in recent times. You could argue Fulham who were up in 2018,2020 and 2022 and down in 2019 and 2021. Prior to that though, they were only in the Championship for 4 years having just spent 13 years immediately previous to that in the Prem.

Bournemouth went down in 2020 and bounced back in 2021, but they spent the previous 4 years in the Prem so a bounce back rather than a true yo-yo.

Yeah, Fulham’s a good shout but yes starting from a very different place to us. If we can do as well as them I’ll be happy.

Burnley under Dyche and Fulham under Silva are the best recent examples but the financial landscape has changed since then.

I can see Burnley finishing bottom next season; they've already lost Egan-Riley and Trafford will go too.

You'd imagine all 3 will be looking on at Brentford and hoping their next manager is a disaster. Seems the best hope now for a promoted team to stay up is for an established one to turn into a basket case.

Wolves and Everton have come close in previous seasons but still had enough quality to drag themselves away from danger

Selfishly we probably want to hope at least 1 of the promoted clubs can defy the odds and stay up. If we're to go back up again its not going to be any easier if its the same 17 clubs still there all with about 5 years+ of PL money behind them at that point.

Not to mention the fact its a sorry state of affairs for the game if they all drop again.

Trafford moving on from Burnley ? I wonder if they will try and re-sign Muric...

Burnley, Brentford, Bournemouth and Wolves are all potentially being raided significantly this summer. I think there’s less chance the three going up return straight back down next year.

Leeds are the one I’d fancy to do best.

Anyways, both us and Leicester should have done better last year. The number of late points we lost was ridiculous, as was the Leicester decision to replace Cooper with RVN.

especially if it's sunderland.

leeds are the most likely of the three to become established if they can stay up, but burnley have several years of prem or parachute money behind them which sunderland don't

Not sure about Burnley, but I think Leeds will have a reasonable chance of surviving.

I'd be surprised if Burnley stay up personally. Sunderland have even less chance IMO. They should have deep pockets and PSR headroom having sold Watson and Bellingham, but I can't imagine they'll be deep enough to bridge the gap given they're starting from such a low base. Cirken is decent, but across the squad I don't even think they were in the top 4 or 5 in the Championship tbh.

Leeds are a big club but the Farke factor is questionable. Is he not of PL quality or is it more that he's not had the tools in his previous attempts? Probably the latter but it'll be interesting to see how that plays out. If they start slow he might be out pretty quickly.

CJ Egan-Riley turned down a contract and off to France. James Trafford likely to move as well.

Also saw Scott Parker was on the shortlist for the Brentford job (here's hoping)

I've seen in a few places that they are fairly up against it PSR wise, so they won't have loads of leeway to spend big. Not sure their current squad is better than the one that went down last time, so the ability to strengthen (or not) will be huge.

Burnley have a huge problem, that they look like they need to turn a profit of £20m just to comply with PSR, so can’t really invest in the team as they’d hope.

Burnley's shopping last summer by Sharkey 6 Jun 10:45

Looking at their recruitment last summer, it seems remarkable how late it was. I make it 12 players (including 4 loans) who arrived after 22nd August, = after two league games. Notably cosmopolitan too. Scott Parker, gel-supremo.
