I am beginning to think that nuclear weapons (as well as regime change) are a pretext, and that having emasculated Hamas and Hezbollah militarily, Israel is now engaged in the same exercise in relation to Iran, having now got control of the airspace and destroyed a lot of Iran's firepower. Indeed, they are now issuing evacuation orders in Tehran.

I did not suggest that might happen. I suggested we should shoot down Iranian missiles in exchange for Israel allowing a lot more aid into Gaza.

Israel is also taking advantage of Trump's blase attitude towards Moscow. Because of this, Putin is unwilling to rock the boat too much as it may affect Ukraine. If there was a previous President in the White House, Russia would be in a position where defending Iran wouldn't lose them anything they hadn't lost already. As it is, Iran is being accepted as collateral damage to fulfil goals closer to home. | |

This communique from the G7, a compromise to get Trump to sign up, effectively gives Israel carte blanche.
"We, the leaders of the G7, reiterate our commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East.
In this context, we affirm that Israel has a right to defend itself. We reiterate our support for the security of Israel.
We also affirm the importance of the protection of civilians.
Iran is the principal source of regional instability and terror.
We have been consistently clear that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon.
We urge that the resolution of the Iranian crisis leads to a broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza.
