Israel & Iran 12:29 - Jun 16 with 1970 views | Zx1988 | At least the media isn't focusing quite as much on Gaza now, eh? Funny how, after the week Israel had been having with regards to media attention on Gaza, they should suddenly reach the decision to start a war with Iran as well... Or can we not say that, on the basis that it's antisemitic to suggest that Israel 'plots' things? [Post edited 16 Jun 12:30]

Israel & Iran on 21:19 - Jun 16 with 340 views | DJR | I am beginning to think that nuclear weapons (as well as regime change) are a pretext, and that having emasculated Hamas and Hezbollah militarily, Israel is now engaged in the same exercise in relation to Iran, having now got control of the airspace and destroyed a lot of Iran's firepower. Indeed, they are now issuing evacuation orders in Tehran. No doubt the US are happy to go along with this. [Post edited 16 Jun 21:20]

That's this universe. You're thinking of the one where he is anti Putin and didn't shill himself on Iranian TV

Clearly reading and thinking are not strong points of yours. I did not suggest that might happen. I suggested we should shoot down Iranian missiles in exchange for Israel allowing a lot more aid into Gaza. I am fully aware it is not going to happen.

Israel is also taking advantage of Trump's blase attitude towards Moscow. Because of this, Putin is unwilling to rock the boat too much as it may affect Ukraine. If there was a previous President in the White House, Russia would be in a position where defending Iran wouldn't lose them anything they hadn't lost already. As it is, Iran is being accepted as collateral damage to fulfil goals closer to home.

This communique from the G7, a compromise to get Trump to sign up, effectively gives Israel carte blanche. "We, the leaders of the G7, reiterate our commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East. In this context, we affirm that Israel has a right to defend itself. We reiterate our support for the security of Israel. We also affirm the importance of the protection of civilians. Iran is the principal source of regional instability and terror. We have been consistently clear that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon. We urge that the resolution of the Iranian crisis leads to a broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza. We will remain vigilant to the implications for international energy markets and stand ready to coordinate, including with like-minded partners, to safeguard market stability.
