Anyone been following?

Close test. India doing a good job here of keeping the scoreboard ticking, 177 lead now. Rahul and Pant looking pretty comfortable.

England looking devoid of ideas and inspiration.

Will be batting to save this. Think there may be some rain around tomorrow.

That toss decision looking very poor.

It was a lot closer when you posted that an hour ago than it is now. Pant and Rahul looking very comfortable at the moment and a lead of 259. Unless India collapse for under 100 from here, then I suspect they'll have too many.

253/3.

It is an odd and strangely benign Headingly wicket, not much movement off the seam plus the sun on day 1 and the wind today not helping with swing.

Looks like game over doesn't it, unless we can skittle these two out pronto. Asking a lot of our batters already.

I will say I am personally delighted for Rishabh Pant, always struck me as a player who loves the game and plays it to entertain . . . . not sure how he survived and came back to play international cricket after that car crash.

Declaration and asking England to chase down circa 350 would be my guess.

I doubt they'll declare before lead is beyond 400 - teams are very wary of England's capacity to get runs fast. Will find out in about 9 overs when they will see what the 2nd new ball does for the England bowlers.

I was factoring in the rain forecast tomorrow - 400 without interruption would be the aim, agreed.

India outplaying us. Rahul has been fantastic in this innings. Crawley should go away & study a video of his innings! Bashir & Woakes completely ineffective, 0-300 so far between them. Bashir takes a wicket as I write! England to reconsider their selection of players & pitches!

Rahul's a lovely player.

Barring a collapse akin to that in the 1st innings we look like we're going to have too much to do with the bat. Expect India will give us 400 to chase and that'll be too big an ask.

We look a bit toothless with the ball, Stokes is our best bowler which is a problem. Talk of Archer coming back but he hasn't played for years, Wood isn't getting any younger and not fit.

That's not really true, 4 India players have made the most of the pitch / conditions and scored over 80% of their runs (620+ from their 770+) while England took 7-41 in the India first innings - and have opened the door again with the wicket of Pant and a new ball looming.

Not really outplaying us, just making the most of the conditions.

Another magnificent Test match in the making. England will still fancy chasing under 400 at Headingley as the pitch doesn't seem to deteriorate, but as it's been so dry, spin will surely be a factor tomorrow, although the forecast isn't great. Reduced overs would help India as it would put the target out of sight & I wouldn't fancy facing Bumrah under lights on a cloudy day.

Our batsmen had the opportunity in pitch & conditions to make a huge score but instead got themselves out playing stupid shots. So you can say we didn't make the most of our conditions. But in Test Cricket I guess you never ever know!

How about three wickets in four balls then?

Hmmm.

Given the wag of England's tail this has been a potentially match winning intervention by Tongue in both innings.

This has been a truly captivating test match on all four days.

Conditions facing Bumrah on Saturday were optimal, the ball that got Crawley was top class, almost unplayable. Ducket and Pope played well, Brooks rode his luck.

We threw some wickets away but our middle and lower order contributed far more than India's.

I would suggest that neither side is outplaying the other, it is well balanced and will depend on either mistakes or moments of inspiration . . .

Not quite under 100, but I would have taken 105 runs from there.

England 371 to win.

would be unique if the side with 5 individual centuries loses. I doubt that has happened before. See off Bumrah and it looks likely.

Wish I lived closer, £20 a ticket for adults and £5 for kids tomorrow. Whatever happens it should be an interesting day of cricket with all 3 outcomes still very much in play.

It's a half fit Bumrah to boot he bowled at least 5 more overs than they'd have wanted in the first innings and is unlikely to play in all 5 tests. Chasing 350 with this England side feels strangely probable. The weather might be the issue though.

Had a lumpy bet India 5/4 this morning.

I’ve got them 8/13 in my view. It’s a day 5 pitch and England need 350 against Bumrah. India just have to be odds on

The last decade trend at Headingley really does take the day 5 pitch part out of the equation though. It's a lot of runs but, Bumrah aside, India's bowling hasn't been all that so far and England score quickly.

It could go either way very easily and I very much regret not being able to WFH today.

Solid start from England, Bumrah seen off and 10 wickets in hand. I suspect the weather is the thing which spoils this.
