Delap, Omari and player trading. 08:47 - Jun 26 with 867 views | Linners | I was sadder than I expected when Delap left, and if we lose Omari that will obviously be worse. But I guess this is the reality now of building the club and is somewhat reminiscent of the late 90s. Much that I love Omari, nothing cuts as deep as when they come through your ranks like Wright, Bramble, Dyer and Ambrose.
Delap, Omari and player trading. on 08:52 - Jun 26 with 808 views | homer_123 | It's about progression and about ensuring that we develop players. In both Delap and Hutch's case - the situation is clear. They have both developed and improved under KM at Town - a consequence of this is that other Clubs become interested. The plan is to take advantage of that in two ways. 1. Improve the team, perform on the pitch and get results 2. Profit when they are sold This is the 'only' way in modern football that a Club of our size can stand any chance of competing in the Prem. I do not see this is a negative if players leave. It's a huge positive, in the longer run - it's how Clubs like Brighton, Brentford et al can bring in good quality younger players - as there is a pathway for first team football, they develop, they are not held back and when the time comes, players move on to bigger Clubs but all the while having massively contributed to the success of their current Club. It’s a deliberate and necessary approach to get us to where we want to go and there is going to be year on year churn in order to achieve that. With Wright, Dyer, Bramble, Bent etc. they were forced sales where we were held over a barrel for a lot of them. At least we have a plan now and it’s with the intention of progress rather than just trying to keep our heads above water

Very true I remember having a beer with David Sheepshanks , he mentioned that the club had to raise £1m a season through transfer's to cover running costs.

Yeah it's always a shame when favourite players move on, but it means being able to incrementally build and improve the team. Pity about the current trend of release clauses in contracts. Stops us maximising profits, like in Delaps case, I'm sure a bidding war would have ensued and we could have pocketed a few extra million.

This is bang on. It's why you should never manage Ipswich on FM; you become too attached to players because of real life nostalgia and refuse to replace them with better players. I was less upset about Delap leaving as it was so inevitable and he did down tools somewhat towards the end of the season. Would hate to see Omari go but, again, head over heart, we have seven other incredible players fighting for those three attackers behind the striker so we could cover him leaving.

Delap, Omari and player trading. on 11:24 - Jun 26 with 284 views | OldFart71 | I supposed the art of trading with a club the size of Town is to ultimately get a player or players who become worth nearing 100 million. Sadly as stated by MA we are someway behind the curve, even taking clubs like Saints and Leicester and then the likes of Brentford, Wolves and Brighton. When even clubs like Newcastle with an average home gate around 50,000 have to consider bids from clubs even higher in the league or considered bigger than themselves it puts into perspective the problems clubs have coming from the Championship. Town have now made two forays into the Premier League in 20 odd years. One for two seasons and one, the most recent, for one season. They have for all to see been a lot more cautious in season 24/25 than the previous excursion, even though the club is much more stable now with backing and parachute payments. Will things be different if for instance they are promoted again in two seasons time. I think they have learnt a great deal, but as we know learning and being able to do anything differently due to the constraints both in the league we are now in and then the Premier League doesn't make things easy.
Delap, Omari and player trading. on 12:48 - Jun 26 with 148 views | Axeldalai_lama | Player trading, fees, making a profit, building the club is a lot to think about and get your head round with many moving parts. For instance, we don't 'need' to make profits on players necessarily since our earlier than planned promotion. Obviously broadly we will do longer term and to make huge strides, but if we sell Delap and hutch for 65 million that's almost half the prem money straight back in our coffers to go again. Still with our hugely broader improved but imperfect prem squad in board. Selling these young players on also does other things. Puts us on the map generally in the football world, and specifically for younger developing players, so hopefully the next few seasons will be easier to persuade players to come. Obviously overall it's a perilous game and a few wrong steps and you're dragged down again, but the player tour over is quite exciting, we're still potentially keeping a vague core of players as we go, see o Shea new contract, Morsy, Hirst etc. but constant evolution, in a positive way is a good thing, bit just journeymen moved on every season, young talent passing through and building us up. Hopefully.
