Anyone else been following the downfall of Farsley Celtic? 11:51 - Jun 30 with 1473 views | SimonBatfordITFC | Currently managed by our former keeper David Stockdale. They were relegated from the National League North (step 2) to Norther Premier League (step 3) in 24/25. Booted out of the Northern Premier League into Northern Counties East (step 5) at the end of last season. And they’ve just announced that they are pulling out of the league altogether. Imagine going from the cusp on professional football to grassroots/amateur in a little more than 12 months.

I've been going to Farsley for over 30 odd ( very odd) years and last season was one of 3 season tickets holders. The previous owner was an utter charlatan, promising much but delivering nothing but debt and disappointment. Got to the stage where players, suppliers and staff were not getting paid - including youngsters working behind the bar still owed money. Ended the season playing a full academy side with home games at Buxton 70 miles away as he'd dug up the pitch for an all weather surface which wasn't laid. They still have no pitch and plenty of debt. Luckily the ground has a covenant protecting use for sporting purposes. Stocky is fairly local and has a chance to rebuild the club and reconnect with the community. Good luck to him. He's already gone back to the old name for the ground, Throstle Nest rather than the Citadel, binned the Games of Thrones style badge and reinstated the traditional blue kit and branding over the recent green and white hoops. All he needs to gain my full support is to do something about the dreadful beer in the clubhouse. Further Town connection - Georges Santos turned out for them a few times. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

That’s really interesting and must be awful for the fans such as yourself. Any idea what the club is planning having pulled out of Northern Counties East League? Are they hoping to re-apply to Northern Premier League or taking a year out? Seems risky to just pull out at this late stage, the leagues kick off again in late July.

I don't think there will any football at all this season. They need to lay a pitch and spruce up facilities which were allowed to run down - as well as get finances sorted so they can sign and, importantly, pay players. They say they've consulted the NCEL through the process but a few supporters are wondering whether they can simply rejoin later without having to start again via the feeder leagues. Who knows.
