John Wark - Badgers Bank - the greatest place on earth in 1980! 07:02 - Jul 5 with 599 viewsstiff_talking

John Wark moved into the new housing estate in Belstead in 1980. For the families such as Carnell, Needham, Snell, Plumb, Golden, Greene and Feathersotne this was a moment of paradise. John was not a neighbor who kept himself to himself he was outgoing, giddy. Friendly and fun.
He embraced his local community and encouraged football in the street he lived. My memories are of Paul Mariner often visiting and John showing off his Zico shirt obtained via playing against Brazil in World Cup1982! I want to thank my father Peter, now 78 years old for his dedication to ITFC. He supported the Town for years and encouraged his boys Paul, Ross and Glenn to follow in the tradition. John inspired us a to support the town and we had a wonderful relationship
with him and his son Andrew. John was mentally tough and gifted on the field but he was more than that. He was inspirational in the way he treated others, saw the world and arrived in the box when others weren’t watching . Thank You John Wark for wonderful memories !

Rarely do fans have the chance to tell the story
John Wark is an important Ipswich story and like Beatie the fans came first !
Badgers bank was important geographically as Belstead Brook hotel was loved by Sir Bobby Robson. So we lived In an area of fields but got to rub shoulders with Ipswich stars on a regular basis and this shaped our lives!

The Badgers Bank Set plenty of GRE & Willis Faber (as was) folks there.

When you say Golden did you mean Goulding?
The brothers - Andrew (>> Royal Navy?), Elwyn (Army) & Gareth (insurance)?
Last saw Elwyn at Heathrow Terminal 3 on his way home from Canada where, IIRC, he'd served a tour as a training instructor.

Badgers Bank was a step up.

10 years earlier. Capel St Mary was the Town footballer's favoured retreat.

And, in the Sixties Broomhill Lido, was their getaway beach.
