Great to see Ogbene back for preseason on 12:03 - Jul 5 with 1516 views | ArnoldMoorhen | He was looking good when he had the injury, a League up. The note of caution is that it isn't always a given that a player will have the same explosive pace after this injury. So I'm cautiously optimistic that he will be a very good player for us this season. Having said that, I prefer Hutchinson wide, so, big if, but if he stays I would prefer him to Ogbene RW, or we could have Hutchinson LW and Ogbene RW with either Szmodics or Chaplin at 10. If Hutchinson doesn't stay then Ogbene RW and Clarke LW, with Philogene able to play either, should be one of the strongest Wing departments in the Championship.

And that all depends on whether we keep Leif, as that will dictate whether we need a genuine chalk on boots winger on the left or a narrower inside forward/second number 10.

Strong agree with this! Hutch - Szmodics - Ogbene would be my preferred three behind Hirst with Clarke - Chaplin - Jaden as subs / rotation with Burns to be the like-for-like sub / rotation with Ogbene when he's back.

Hutchinson often cuts in from the left, for England U21s, so, in tandem with Leif on that side, would be very dangerous.

That's without mentioning Broadhead. Sadly that list means we're almost definitely losing one of Hutch or Broadhead. I'd also expect a fit Philogene to definitely be starting over Ogbene. You just can't leave a £20+ man you've just bought on the bench. Maybe he'll play from the left, which seems to be his more attacking position.

Yep good point. He had a nice relationship with Livramento when they played on that side. Livramento overlapping and very attacking like Leif, and Omari playing narrow.

Thought Omari grew in that left role for the U21’s, with Clarke & Smodz also potentially, Odbene & Philopastry on the other flank we are as has been said, blessed with decent wider players. Just the central mid conundrum needs sorting for me.

Yeah, works well with Hutch but question marks over how effective Clarke has been when playing ahead of Leif. We’ve an embarrassment of options in those 3 roles behind the striker though. As long as we can keep most of them, we should have one hell of an attacking threat this season. [Post edited 5 Jul 14:49]

I'm surprised by this. I think most outside the club would say this is the strongest: Clarke - Hutch - Philogene That is what I would go with as well. Philogene has been amazing at this level and for the U21's and has been written off far too quickly. Philogene was starting for the U21s up until his injury and I don't think we're going to have a 20m player as a reserve. I could be wrong of course, there is such depth in these positions it's hard to call and we have the squad to rotate as you've highlighted. All assuming we keep Hutch of course. Great to see Ogbene back for preseason on 18:53 - Jul 5 with 517 views | Smoresy | Huge "if" given last season's injury record but we could be incredibly stacked in the three positions behind striker (Omari, J Clarke, Philo, Szmod, Broady, Chappers, Ogbene, Burns), so much so that we may not even look to replace if we sell one. The absence of U21 first teamers means few places available to rectify our imbalanced squad. Looks likely we'll have 3 senior keepers this time. We only have 3 obvious CBs unless Baggott has improved a lot, when we've been accustomed to 4 plus Tuanzebe. Including Humphreys we have 3 CMs; we've been accustomed to 5. I say accustomed but that's the bare minimum in these positions really, and our returning loanees are above 21 anyway. We also need our Delap replacement and should look to keep or replace Ali too, if McKenna wants to keep to the same system. . 3 GKs + 2 RBs + 2 LBs + 4 CBs + 5 CMs + 8 AMs + 3 STs = 27, which is two above the limit. Loans count toward this number irrespective of age, so unless we're targeting permanent U21 signings, we need to cut the fat somewhere. Szmodics as 3rd striker if injuries demand? Johnson as 5th CM if injuries demand, with O'Shea and Ogbene able to help an injury-prone Clarke fill the RB slot should Johnson be needed in the middle?

Hoping Jaden can have a big season. He’s super talented and a player who can you off your seat. 8 goals I think last time so his end product is good too.

Great to see Ogbene back for preseason on 19:20 - Jul 5 with 443 views | darkhorse28 | Injured player becomes Pele, when team do badly syndrome. I thought he looked quick, athletic, great workrate, but end product was really poor, I’ve only seen him play maybe 7 or 8 times at Rotherham and Ireland etc so a small sample size. One of the games for Ireland, might even have been against England he was their MOTM.., but it was ‘tallest dwarf’ scenario his end product was really poor. He had a really bad habit of having to stop and look up when in good positions. He’s never looked close to prem level.., even at his best.., a strange signing with all the right side options we had. And lack of midfielders. I’m sure he can be a big asset in the EFL, just not expecting goals or assists…, which for an inside forward is never great.

Was hardly a strange signing when he was recruited to play a certain role which his attributes are perfect for
