You cannot "protest" a thing. You can protest about it, or against it. Or even over it. But you can't just protest it. That is grammatically silly and a nasty Americanism which we ought to protest against.

The quote you are using is about the action of protest so it works. Its not specific to a thing- ie "he doth protest against noise pollution, too much". The equivalent would be "methinks he does protest noise pollution" which is the clumsy awkward thing Im complaining about.

Accepted or not, its nonsense. Vinyl records are an anachronism in many ways, and the use of that word comes from a misunderstanding of how it was used back when they were actually the main source of recorded music.
