If it’s gonna be Morsy plus one…. on 11:14 - Jul 8 by Kieran_Knows | Downes, and it's not even a contest. |
Different style of players but Downes isn't even in the same postcode as Cajuste and would cost over twice as much.

Still Downes for me, as much as I like Cajuste and think he would be a decent addition.

As good as I think Flynn is, I am not sure he quite performed to the levels Cajuste did. Either partnered with Morsy next year would be high level though.

What's your thinking? Genuinely, Downes + Morsy? I don't think that works as well, if Downes comes in then I think Cajuste is even more important.

Because he's been absolutely outstanding for us over a number of years, he leads the group, he sets the tempo, he set's the standard with his performances. Even in the PL at 32/33, let alone back in the Championship. He has 1 year on his deal, which I personally think he will see out before a middle east move for big money. He has shown no signs of slowing down, if he stays, which I hope he is, he starts, he plays, he captains. On that basis, we are currently looking for a partner, not a replacement.

To slow, gets caught out a lot now not really a box to box midfielder which we've carved years for, not disputing his service to town and still has plenty to give but shouldn't be a dead cert on the team sheet + 1,

Yup. Downes is so overrated on here for some reason. Bang average. Cajuste is twice the player he is.

I know this isn't the question on 12:13 - Jul 8 with 635 views | Dyland | Neither. Cajuste is a class act when fit, but we can't be messing around with our main CMs on big wages being injury prone. And as much as I like Downes, I'd be after someone even better.

That's not a reason he shouldn't be a dead cert on the team sheet. We'll see how his legs are next season, if he's here. I don't agree he was caught out "a lot" but this depends on one's interpretation of " a lot" I guess. And you don't need reminding that was in the Premiership, and the gulf is fackin vast.

Aw you say we will see, As for your other post, it's difficult cause is a rolls Royce but actually produces very little assists and only one goal albeit good, Downes a good compliment for morsy but if we go up he's probably going to be lacking, Probably two new dynamic pacey midfielders but do we have the money

Just consider the Cajuste postion....this is someone who's come in to replace Massimo Luongo. Was Mass an assist king or prolific in front of goal? Cajuste in the Championship is a great signing and will get better imo too.

He looked better than any other player on the pitch for Soton at PR, until the sending off.

I agree and disagree. Agree that the position doesn't need to be a G/A machine - that's for the front 4 and fullbacks. But, in terms of replacing Massimo, one of Cajuste's biggest criticisms from last season was that he couldn't cover the left when Davis went bombing forward; something which Mass excelled at.

I think it was more a case of the overall quality we were up against making that part of our game something that was more easily exploited. In any case, Cajuste in the Championship is entirely different to him in the PL, as are a number of our players.

Was he injury prone though? He only missed 5 games completely. We had to manage his knee minutes wise, yes, but ultimately he still played 60+ mins (usually 70+ mins) in two thirds of our games. And I think that knee issue is baked into a price of €6.5m. There might be more games in the Championship but most of them will be at nowhere near the intensity. I think he would breeze through a lot of games. A real class act.

And yeh I agree, if there aren't fitness concerns I'd love him to be here next season.
