Was a rumour at one point. Shows the level we’re trying to compete at.

If that part is true, how come a club can agree terms with a player, before the actual selling club?
You see it more and more nowadays.

Wouldn’t surprise me if we come in late doors if they can’t agree a fee. No point in battling against a club offering prem football. This one and Hackney a stretch too far thou I’d imagine. Tyler Morton for me.

The hiring club presents its offers to both player and club simultaneously. The former says yes while the latter are still wanting to discuss things further.

Particularly likely if the player is keen to move on and the club is after elaborate top-ups to their part of the deal.

Permission to talk is not necessarily dependent upon a sale having already been agreed between clubs.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Its supposed to be not allowed but like most rules there are ways around it via agents etc and as every club does it there is little interest in outlawing it totally.

An unsubstantiated rumour doesn't show anything.

Lets see who actually comes through the door.

I'm still optimistic that we are working on good quality targets that take time to land.

I don't think it is really in anyone's interests to completely prevent some (indirect) communication between the buying club and the targeted player prior to a fee being agreed.

It will save people's time if it is clear that the player doesn't want to move for some reason, and allows everyone to set some expectations on contract level and length without going through all the rigmarole of haggling over the sale price.

Further I recall some cases where a player is so keen to make the move they've waived some loyalty/bonus payments from the selling club to get the move through.

This just makes it smoother, and I'm sure everyone basically turns a blind eye.

We’re clearly aiming high and rightly so. Not sure where that rumour is from or if there’s basis to it but on the face of it that feels like the sort of profile we would want. Vast PL experience, robust, would likely shine at Champ level but also be a player we could retain at a level above should we get back there. Transfer fee in the low 8 figure range, reported c. £50k a week wage. That’s probably the profile of a marquee CM addition we would be very keen on.

If we’re to invest this summer we need to do so on players who can hopefully take us on a level. It’s a difficult thing to do to attract players who are a demonstrable improvement on Morsy / Taylor etc. If they aren’t, there’s not much value in it, if they are they’ll probably have suitors within the premier league. Very hard to do this sort of business but it’s the right approach…for now. Hopefully we can land 2 or 3 of that ilk, if not we’ll no doubt pivot our attention to plan B. It very much has to be quality over quantity though.
