If Cajuste really wanted to be here, it would've happened by now. He's a fine player but surely now it's time to move on. If he goes to Burnley, good luck to him but I'd like to see us start bringing at least one central midfield starter in the next week. Season starts 4 weeks on Friday and a bit of bedding in time would be useful.

It's not about whether Cajuste wants to be anywhere in particular - it's about him getting the best deal for him and his family.
Stop with this outdated romantic notion that players will move to clubs because they want to be somewhere in particular. It's a short and uncertain career, and players need to make sure that they're doing what's best for their future - especially as they could be one dodgy tackle away from the end of said career.
I think we're going to be pursuing multiple deals at the same time though. We haven't stopped progressing other deals because we trying to get this done. There's a good chance that this deal isn't even at the top of the current list - it's just the one that's getting all the attention.
What l said in another thread basically. I totally agree with you. Austria next week and we have absolutely no one in. We need two good midfielders and one, probably two strikers. I know it’s hard to do deals but KM and MA said they could take advantage of the fact we knew we were relegated to start making plans early for players. Now,we have no one and most championship clubs have been signing recruits for the new season. We don’t seem to want to look abroad(unless they speak better English than most of us!, which is a ridiculous attitude in today’s football world). We can’t hope PL clubs will loan/sell us players unless we pay the earth for them and then it won’t be until they have whittled their final teams down. Then we could be four games in and maybe 10 points behind the leading teams as a worse case scenario.

Totally agree. I very much doubt that both Sam Morsy and Leif Davis really wanted to come here but no one else wanted them and the rest is history.
As you said, players go to the best package of money and playing opportunities.

Signing Cajuste is like making love to a beautiful woman. He's not just a creature who likes fine wines, Whitney Houston films and the manly smell of Gav's pipe. Cajuste is a complex, mysterious box of tricks. When you are selling a club to Cajuste, you have to imagine you're making love to him. You have to seduce him. And when he signs, that's the big 'O' - orgasm central.

Absolutely. It's like fans think players are either Ipswich fans or not. For most football is their passion but it's also their career and a very short one!! He has to put his family first. I have no doubt he loved his time with us and would be happy to sign. But he has the right to look at all his options just as, even though we like home, we will be having conversations with multiple other central midfielders. Our eggs are NOT all in Cajuste basket. Much as we'd like him.
There's about 16 Premiership clubs going into Europe this season aren't there ? That's where all these Premiership level players are wanting to go, they're not interested in coming down to the Championship. We need to put that search on hold until January when most of them will be out of Europe anyway & might be available for loan. Find the best at Championship level now and get them in for some friendlies to bed in.

Every transfer window a post like this appears and it still baffles me that people think it works like this.
Cajuste can want to come here but also want to get the best deal for him and his family. Maybe his heart is here but for his career he wants to play top flight football. It is a big decision to make, it takes time.
The idea that if a player doesn't just jump at us at the first time of asking we should move on to someone else is just wrong. If he is the player we want we should pursue the deal until it is dead and then we move on.
Always the dangers when shopping in such a high level pool. It’s lovely to have the idea that we can pull PL players down to the Championship, the practicality of it is very different.
Whether it be Cajuste, Longstaff or any similar name/profile player.
I do have concerns that, if that is the strategy, you could end up in a precarious position by the end of the window, if you fail to get any ambitious over the line, and of course if you do late in the window, they are playing catch up on the pre season work.
I can’t deny, I am cautiously concerned about how the window is unfolding so far.

We have these sort of threads everytime a signing is dragged out - anyone who signs on the dotted line wants to be here
Agreed.
The other consideration is that we often look to the PL for a quality loan and we're not going to get PL clubs allowing players to go out just yet either.
It won't be a perfect window, never is.

How very defeatist. Never heard the phrase "anything in life worth having, is worth working hard for"?
We had this attitude last summer from a lot of fans and I can't comprehend it. There is going to be competition for good players and we aren't Real Madrid - it isn't going to be the top choice for everyone to come here - sometimes they will need to consider their options and we might have to do some persuading.

Napoli don't seem to want Caljuste and appear to be offering to multiple clubs, If Besiktas want him they will pay about £7.5 million with loan fee and final purchase. Why can't we offer Napoli the same amount for a straight sale with no add ons or release clause so he is off their books? Caljuste could be offered a 3 year contract which will give him security, Also we wouldn't have the same will he, won't he sign again situation next year if it was a loan deal.

There might be myriad of reasons - for one, i'd be much happier with a loan again with the option to buy at the end of the season if that's on the table and i'm sure the club would be too. It derisks the financial situation in case we don't go up as well as giving us another year monitoring his injury concerns before taking the plunge. It would be ideal.

Really simplistic to look at it in terms of where a player does or doesn't want to go.
Imagine being in a position where you have multiple potential employers trying to sell you a job vacancy and they aren't even all in the same country. If you're sensible you will weigh each offer up, consider the pro's and cons, discuss it with your missus. You wouldn't be too impressed with any of the offering parties saying "decide now please or clearly you don't want to be here"
As someone has already mentioned, he will decide what is best for the next stage of his career. Whether that's Ipswich or not, who knows, he will have his reasons either way.
I think what is clear though, his next move will be wrapped up in the coming days with several clubs interested and making their moves. Let's just see what happens. I think the bets way to look at this is more with hope than expectation that he returns - unless Ipswich is the only club he wants.
