We got bullied in the midfield last season 12:58 - Jul 15 with 1464 views | Bobbychase | If the club has ambitions to go up and stay up this time, they need to address this and that's why I am not surprised to see Morsy (and Luongo) allowed to leave. With the rich owners and new ambitions comes a lack of sentiment. I much prefer this approach to holding onto players who were past their best but we couldn't afford the upgrades. Gutted that we won't get to see him in a Town shirt one last time and say a proper goodbye though. Nice move by the club to help his transfer be a smooth move, he's earned that. Big boots to fill.

We talked about the defence not being tight enough last season but there were several way more qualified in footie maters than most of us that highlighted from before Christmas that one of our biggest weaknesses was in midfield. The fact that by the end of the season Sam wasn't playing every weeks showed that KM recognised this as well. So I don't think we'll miss him as a player - but would have been great to have had him round the club for continuity and his overall leadership. Looks to me like he's seen the writing on the wall and made the decision to move on - and who can blame him.

The lack of strength in midfield meant Davis got even more exposed. We need younger and more mobile and athletic players in there. Morsy and Luongo plus occasionally Cajuste were OK but not robust enough for the premiership. This not to denigrate what the former 2 bought to the club and I'm obviously sad that Morsy has left and will remember him very fondly. [Post edited 15 Jul 18:22]

Morsy took on the major responsibility of taking the ball from the keeper with PL strikers breathing down his neck. He was struggling at times, but he was always brave and never hid. What I don't understand is why does Cajuste never come under the same scrutiny as Morsy. Why does he get a free pass? Cajuste got bullied, too.... yet many are desperate to have him back.

Ultimately our midfield wasn't quite good enough, that's not on Morsy and let's be honest be honest the Phillips gamble failed. We just have to concede we weren't good enough. No shame in getting exposed in the top flight after 20 years.

I’m not. Blessing in disguise if we don’t get him.

Maybe Cajuste is likely to get better whereas Morsy won't? I can see why people want Cajuste back but I think he has a lot of improving to be a Premier League player. That or those around him weren't good enough to offer him sufficiently good options, possibly.

Morsy is not being singled out, he's a club legend. But if we did go up he will be another year older in a league that is unforgiving in terms of pace and strength. It's logical to let him and Massimo move on IF we have younger replacements incoming.

Hmmmmmmmmm. I think there's a bit of revisionism going on here. Won't miss him as a player? I think we will. He had the second most minutes last season. Played well I thought throughout the season. I agree midfield is an area where lack of elite athleticism is an issue and we need to improve (Azor V exciting signing) but I think Morsy is still capable of playing at the highest level. KM seemed to suggest he was expecting Sam to stay. I can understand it's tricky and he's got to do the right thing for his family but it feels like a big loss to me. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
We got bullied in the midfield last season on 20:42 - Jul 15 with 331 views | Swansea_Blue | Nobody’s bullying Morsy in the Championship for at least another year or two. We saw the massive jump from the Championship to the PL, so let’s not write players off as we drop back down. We have replaced him and we’re looking to the future, but that’s down to his contract situation and the interest from the Middle Easy as well as his ability/fitness. He could do another year here and still be on it each week.
