Blue Monday - subdued outlook on Cajuste 06:25 - Aug 8 with 2622 views | franz_tyson | On BM, last night ( Ben and Mikey) gave bit a somewhat different attitude to all the euphoria of the Cajuste signing. Mikey in particular, was critical of his defensive weaknesses and his shooting. Was mentioned that Joe was a bit critical of him, too. Have to admit.... I thought he was just OK (6/10). I don't understand why he's being lauded so much. He's got some lovely touches and looks a class act in periods - but he wasn't strong defensively and only had 1 goal and 1 assist to his name. Was mentioned that Jens could well he an absolute star in the Championship because of the drop off in level and that's what I'm hoping. Sorry, Kieran absolutely rates him, and so does 95% of Town fans, but i just didn't think he was that good. Then again... who was? Thought BM gave an honest appraisal of him and weren't trying to moan or stick the boot in. As am I. Just want a bit more output and a bit more grunt from him as well as the pretty stuff.

Blue Monday - subdued outlook on Cajuste on 07:16 - Aug 8 by _clive_baker_ | Important to remember that we’re operating at a very different level this season. There aren’t many championship clubs who can get a 25 year old international out of Napoli to the championship. Fitness is a concern for me, especially with a gruelling 46 game season but there’s no doubt in my mind Cajuste can be a top player at this level given what we saw last season. |
From what I've seen in pre season, I think the dynamic of our midfield two is going to be a bit different this season. Azor can cover the ground faster than Morsy and looks like he is able to cover more of the width of the pitch with Cajuste able to be more progressive and have less defensive responsibility. I can't imagine we wanted to spend £15m+ on the best 'ball progressor' in the Championship and then play him identically to Luongo either!

Blue Monday - subdued outlook on Cajuste on 09:37 - Aug 8 by HighgateBlue | I agree. But then, I also think Morsy would have been outstanding too. I'm confused at his departure, and I'm confused that more people aren't confused. |
Morsy has been a great captain but is on the decline, there’s no room for sentiment, we want to keep progressing and 34/35 year old Morsy playing every week might get us to the Premier League again but it presents an issue once we do get promoted as he’s such a big character and the leader of the squad. Sam didn’t want to play a bit part role, he has business interests in that area of the world, all makes sense to me.

Blue Monday - subdued outlook on Cajuste on 09:35 - Aug 8 by Mullet | I think it's part and parcel of being a top club at Championship level. Prem clubs hoard more and more talent and they pay off the investment through loans. I'd love us to look at Collyer at United if he was possible. He'd suit us perfectly and whilst he joined after McKenna would be schooled in a familiar way - likewise Obi might inly be 17 or so but is a real livewire. Chucking him off the bench in games would be carnage. |
Maybe. Think we could do with a player who has more game time experience, if Cajuste gets injured we could be short for a full season if it's a bad one, and then we aren't any better off really.
Isn’t the conversation more about can Cajuste move into the Lunongo role… on 09:58 - Aug 8 with 157 views | unstableblue | … we saw in the Championship?! Not the quality levels between the two leagues and his form last season? (Although I do agree Jens had some defensive positioning issues in the Premier League) He was asked with Morsy to sit deep, and the quality of the opposition, the pace and physicality meant he was often anchored deep. He seemed to break the lines effectively but way too infrequently. But again could be the quality gap. He now needs to be breaking the lines all the time and causing havoc in the final third and linking play, especially wide left. Luongo would often join Davis, Broadhead or Chaplin to overload on the left area of the box. And of course Mass shot more regularly. I saw Hackney as a younger and more mobile Luongo with a wider set of passing. Can Jens step into that. And what playmaking will we see? And really importantly he has played with Azor before - another key discussion point - they know each other, and Azor is far more mobile than Morsy and can patrol in front of the back two… giving Jens more freedom. Finally, despite all of Taylor’s critics, for me he brings something to the more advanced left sided role - shooting and longer distribution - hope he brings that tonight. But Jens needs to also show those qualities. Suggest our middle two may be more defensive tonight, in what I expect will be an early onslaught. Bring it on - COYB

I certainly do see similarities between Cajuste and Luongo in the sense that they are both good footballers and can pass, tackle and advance.
