Two very promising performances from an awkward night

Yes it was Bromley, but to have a 21 year old and an 18 year old in the middle together with no Morsy next to each other, no other experienced midfielder to be given directions from, I found they really went about the game well.

I was shocked we allowed at one point Barbrook to the be alone at the back during our own corner, but he stood up to the task really well.

Whilst it was Bromley, being two young midfielders playing together, they did really well and showed individually what attributes they have.

Humphreys definately needs to stick around this season, he can 100% come on and be that 70th minute finishing midfielder option, Barbrook, I;d be on the phone to lee grant and getting him on loan there

a niche perspective

Yes, both did well. Still feel Humphreys has a place in our matchday team this season (tho perhaps not as a regular starter once Cajuste is up to speed).

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

I was impressed with Barbrook but, have to admit, I thought Humphreys flattered to receive.

That breakaway that Barbrook got the final block in showed a level of footballing intelligence that is hard to coach. He took up a position which forced the attacker slightly wider but also limited the chance to square the ball to the other breaking Bromley player.

That’s how I saw it. Humphreys was tidy but seemed to go sideways most of the time when we really needed him to try and break the lines

Barbrook is 20. They were what you would expect against the level of opposition. Tidy on the ball but didn't really affect the game.

I thought it was interesting what KM said last night ...

Could Humphreys play a big part in the season ahead? “He can. I’ve got full belief in him that when the opportunities are there, he’ll be ready to take them. He did well in the few minutes he got on the pitch on Friday night [at Birmingham].

“At the same time, to be the dominant team in the division, or one of the dominant teams in the division, then we need to have really good depth and strength in that position, so we need to be in a position by the end of August where there’s fierce competition and really good depth in every slot.

“Hopefully, midfield will be no different to that and Cameron will be there to fight for his minutes, like every other player.”

To say "then we need to have really good depth and strength in that position, so we need to be in a position by the end of August where there’s fierce competition" when there is already Cajuste, Taylor & Humphreys suggests he thinks more competition will join that position.

I like Cam but I would be pretty disappointed if he's our midfield option off the bench.

Yep, they both played it very safe. Lots of short passes, all very neat and tidy but no drive and no affect on the game other than a shot saving slide from Barbrook. It was a bit insipid, expected more from Humphreys.

I noticed that as well, it was quality positional defending and that a world class defender would have been proud of let alone a young budding midfielder. Like others said Cam flattered to deceive. We need a rampaging midfielder that can beat the press and strole through the middle drawing players towards him, we do not have this at the moment. Taylor cant do this, Cam cant do it either. Maybe Cajuste can a bit but letting Morsey go will most likely be our downfall. He blatantly was worth 2 years contract even if one year is wasted after getting us back to the Premier. One of the most Influential players of the last couple of decades being allowed to go for free is absolute mind shattering.

"Good on the ball, does f*** all"

You can hide by playing neat and tidy. But they're both young.
