Please can we win the next couple of games... 16:39 - Aug 17 with 2320 views | tonybied | ...so all the absolutely, over the top, massive flouncers can fook off back under the rocks they've appeared from. The constant need for turning almost every thread into negativity is tiring at the minute. It's sapping my enjoyment of being here somewhat.

Please can we win the next couple of games... on 19:55 - Aug 18 by jasondozzell | Can I begin by saying I really liked Colin Healy. Underrated! Re the optimism.. Obviously it's not all sweetness and light - we had a tough season last year and we've lost key players as you say. But you've also said it yourself: 'I think our start has largely been fine... Expect us to be challenging at the top end'. I mean that's something we would have killed for during the barren years! The club is in rude health, we know we will be at the top challenging, we have a great young manager and exciting players. Look at the transfer targets we're being linked with! I guess what I'm trying to say is we could be Blackburn couldn't we - we know what that's like, but we're miles from that now. Which is sad in itself, the game has become so dependent on having serious investment to compete but we have won the lottery on that so to speak. I also think it depends how you view last year. I actually thought we gave a fairly decent account of ourselves. Can't remember many games where we got trounced. We tried to play good football and in the first half of the season at least did okay. We were a league one side promoted to the PL in two years. I can't think of a more difficult task really in the game. Remember PJ watching the dvd? We're so far from that that I think everything is amazing really! |
Think you’ve rather overestimated me saying that I think we’ll be up there. I do think that but I don’t know that we will be, we may continue to labour as we have done and fail to get the players in and have another disappointing season - will everything still be amazing at that point or would it be more realistic to say the last 2 years have been sh*t and facing the prospect of fading back into being a Blackburn? I’m also not sure how anyone could really have enjoyed last year. First half of the season yes fair enough, but the second half was painful, and whilst I completely agree about the context I’m not sure how anyone other than the happiest of clappers could sit there and enjoy watching it We’ve won 5 league games in 40, 1 at home in 20…but EVERYTHING is amazing!

Please can we win the next couple of games... on 09:37 - Aug 19 by darkhorse28 | If you’re only here for validation and fantasy, I’d suggest that might be the issue. If people expressing negativity, when we had the worst season in our history, and have the strategic planning skills of Croydon council, then you shouldn’t be here. No need for over the top constant negativity, it’s toxic at times and k agree with you there, but if you can’t find a space for critical evaluation, scrutiny, genuine concerns and red flags, then a ‘forum’ where ideas can be debated (I know .., it’s emotional, reductive.., tribal…, and never are) isn’t the place for you. Too much faux positivity in here too…, people just craving validation, to be liked and an easy thumbs up. ‘Ipswich are better than everyone .., McKenna is better than Peo…, Ashton is a strategic god’ Equally as nauseating at this point. The ability to abandon all the facts of the last 12 months and three really poorly planned transfer windows required a genuine mental health intervention…., it’s beyond delusional. I get that engaging with the negativity doesn’t feel as good, but if it helps get us to where we need to be then that’s positive and progress. Imagine a club…, that’s up for sale…, and we can’t even talk about it!!!! That’s how dysfunctional this board can be. Can’t even say it - Shhhh That’s the emotional resilience of a a grape!! It’s not even a negative…, could be great for us long term, probably would be…, but no, it feels bad, so let’s all collectively just say nice things and pretend it isn’t true. That’s about as positive as spending the next 50 years hiding under a sofa. We are for sale. We did just sell £80 million of players, we have signed mostly loans. If that’s negative…, address the issues…., not the messengers, for stating simple facts. Ashton and McKenna and Gamechanger…, they may not quite be the fantasy many built them up to be. And that’s the real issue isn’t it…, not people wanting to talk about important facts, and evidence it. It’s that those facts prick an emotional fantasy, that some people invested their entire personalities in. That’s football. If the emporer does turn out to be naked…., we will have a new emporer - owners. CEO’s, managers, they are only ever custodians. The club and fans. That’s what counts. We should stand together for that…, not blind faith, not only criticism of every mistake, we don’t need to be perfect. But balance works both ways…, some can’t see past the raw emotion. |
And they all lived happily ever after.

It’s an opinion of which I believe, but because you think differently you choose to say we flounce. As for my second point I will almost be back under my rock on Sunday, I’m flying off to a remote island for three weeks to live off the land survival style in Indonesia. So if I can’t build a shelter from the bamboo and natural resources I’ll look for a rock to shelter me from the weather. All the best Tony and I’ll be back on Sept 15th and hopefully the results will have improved, and we will have had a few more players in the door before the end of the month.

Precisely. I don't see why people are still wetting themselves over GC, MA and even KM after the worst ever season in God knows how long in terms of points and wins as if they were some kind of messiah Back-to-back promotions were great, even impressive but that is history. Are the budgie skum and Watford still harping on their back-to-back promotions; which they achieved before us today? I'd rather trade mid-table PL stability than all these. Sunderland took just one more season to achieve what we did, you don't see the fans going gaga praising and kowtowing to Louis-Dreyfus and Le Bris. If you had browsed RTG last season (and the past few) by far the large majority of Sunlun fans were more critical of their ownership and manager than happy clappy. If they stay up this season then it is proof that MA and KM aren't the geniuses that some people here think they are. This season - weak start so far, but I shall reserve my comments until the transfer window and after the first 10 games.

Not directly at anyone per se but isn’t that just the internet summed up. You take a position, never back down and the only important thing is winning the argument. Personally I’d rather be positive and right and then be negative and right!

You're doing a great job of reserving your comments until after the transfer window and then games in, chief. It's not like you're wetting the bed with the same repetitive negative drivel on multiple threads.

I have not commented on any games this season have I? Or do you want me to start talking about the $hitshow at L2 Bromley and how a parachute team needed a stoppage time penalty to draw with a newly promoted one? [Post edited 19 Aug 11:35]

Also, Sunderland took 3 seasons to get promotion from the Championship. 2 games into the season, 1 premier game, and people are losing their minds trying to create negative comparisons. Last season was crap, especially after Christmas, but I'm not sure that the point still needs labouring after every single game (especially games we aren't playing in!).

‘Precise’ was not an adjective that sprang to my mind reading DH’s post.

There's a raft of posters that only seemed to appear last season who only over post to complain about the state of the club. I'd hoped some of them might go back to following the Prem rather than us now we're not in it but a few of them have lingered on, sadly. Reasonable and balanced critique is fine, it's the relentless negativity and doom-mongering from some quarters that is really quite tedious. We're two games in, have played two of our toughest fixtures with a depleted squad, and we've drawn them both. Hardly a catastrophe but the way some people are wanging on you'd think we'd been battered by 3 or 4 in both games.
