Looking to upgrade my Garmin Forerunner 55.
Was thinking I'd get a Forerunner 165 but noticed a few people on Strava using the Coros.
Anyone used either or have any alternative suggestions? |  |

I have a Garmin Fenix 6x pro. It's ridiculously amazing.
I've had it probably 2 years. I run most days and have used it for everything from 5k to arduous mountain ultra marathons in the US.
Coros are hugely influencer hyped. I don't know a single person (who isn't paid by coros) who uses one. |  |

Nothing at all...
The forerunner 55 has been brilliant, I've done thousands of miles with it, but the battery isn't as good as it was and the start/stop button is broken.
I don't want to spend for a Fenix or 9 series Forerunner so 165 or Coros for me. | |

I've got a coros pace 2 (I think its that model). Found it really good, easy to use, and the battery life is excellent. I'll be likely to stick with them in the future. But I've not used other makes so not got much of a comparison. |  | | |

Fair enough. I’ve got the forerunner 55, I run a lot when I’m not injured and it suits me absolutely perfectly and didn’t break the bank. That’s said my needs are relatively basic.
Was interested if there was any particular functionality you were looking for that it didn’t give you or you had encountered limitations. | | | |

Fair enough. I’ve got the forerunner 55, I run a lot when I’m not injured and it suits me absolutely perfectly and didn’t break the bank. That’s said my needs are relatively basic.
Was interested if there was any particular functionality you were looking for that it didn’t give you or you had encountered limitations. |
Have to admit, the Training Readiness morning report on the Forerunner 265 interests me.
Not interested in any smart functionality (I hate seeing messages on my watch), I don't really use the training features as my club has structured sessions and I don't listen to music when I run.
I run a lot when not injured too, unfortunately there's always something 😂 | |

A couple of friends have recently switched to Coros from Garmin, they really like them
However, it doesn't have the "resume later" function that Garmin has for a run, although I think it does for cycling, which is a bit weird
Also you can't put your parkrun barcode on there like you can with Garmin |  | | |

I’ve always been Polar and have the Vantage 3 now. I preferred their more basic previous models for general running and multi sport but wanted to try the map routing feature. It’s brilliant for runs/bikes/walks in new places. Especially good for hillwalking/trail running/cycling and mountain biking.
I would suggest you stick with what you know if you’re happy with it. Garmin are pretty much the standard. If you haven’t tried one with maps though, it’s well worth looking into unless you only ever run on familiar routes/trails. [Post edited 17 Aug 21:17]

I have a Pace 3 and love it. It's incredibly light, battery lasts well, picks up GPS immediately.
It also has great software, and they send out updates that actually add functionality.
I wear mine as a daily watch, and love the vibrating alarm, timer & sleep measuring function.
You can edit screens to suit.
Oh and it has a music option if want to leave the phone at home and listen to mp3s.
It's waterproof too, and i swim with it.
I used to have a Garmin, but much prefer the Coros.
I also don't bother with Strava any more as the Coros software has all the data you need, inc training plans, workouts, all sorts of stuff.

Coros 3 has Recovery Measure which is like Training Readiness I guess.
Also sleep HRV which may indicate overtraining. | |

Whoop’s AI assistant is pretty good too. Not that I’m saying get a whoop as they’re expensive (but they are good). My point is that I agree that AI does have the potential to be quite useful* for training, as long as you’re inputting reliable data (which is where the whoop comes in being one of the most reliable out there).
*for me, analysing training data is the only use I’ve found for AI that’s better than old school | |
