As much as i like McKenna and still have confidence in him 17:44 - Aug 23 with 974 viewsCopfordBlue

in hindsight it would have been better all round if he’d left last summer.

Once we’d got over the disappointment and a minority had called him the names that some do after any player or manager leaves on their terms, he’d have secured his place as one of our greatest managers ever. As it is unfortunately that now seems unlikely to be his legacy. He’ll either be sacked or if he leaves of his own accord to go elsewhere it will leave a sour taste after receiving so much support when his record over the last 40 odd games would have got him the sack from almost every other club in the country.

he didn't leave, the board didn't want him to leave, the fans didn't want him to leave.

all of this is slowly changing, results can't be ignored forever, KM has it within his own power to change his approach to the game but he doesn't. That's on him and he will in time have to accept the consequences of that.

I am convinced that Ashton does not want to sack him under any circumstances.

I am now convinced that not only do we need a new manager but also a new CEO - the club has lost direction. It's up to the owners to act.

I think your message highlights what is going to be an issue in the next few weeks if things don’t improve. Ashton will start getting stick and when a chairman or CEO starts feeling the heat they tend to get rid of the manager.

We lost a game of football. We lost one here last year too.

It’s not about today. I’m not saying he should be sacked or I want him to go. It’s the opposite of that, maybe I didn’t choose my words as well as i should. Reading the forum and seeing all the stick directed at him feels wrong. I don’t believe any manager would have kept us up last season with the squad and budget he had. It feels wrong that he’s being slated after all he’s done.

I agree but I cannot see how Ashton can be exonerated from all of this. He is equally culpable for what is happening, recruitment across the board in terms of players, coaches etc has been totally inept and we are now paying the price for it.
What bugs me most is so much money has been spent to watch what we see on the football pitch. How can it be defended?

What heat?
I think you're imagining things.

Jesus Christ, we're only 3 games in and he hasn't got his full squad together yet.

What part is tripe? That if he’d left at the end of his second full season after back to promotions he wouldn’t be forever regarded as one of our best ever managers or that mangers with 4 wins in 41 league games usually keep their job?

Do you think we can at least let it get to 10 games before all of this nonsense starts in earnest?

You’ve completely misinterpreted my OP. That’s probably on me for not articulating my point better but to pretend that this is all about the last 3 games is daft and you know it.

The "not a full squad" excuse is slightly infuriating. The current squad should be more than good enough to get at least a point, if not three, from Preston. Even without the five or six players we seemingly still need just to fight for promotion.

It isn't just 3 games, we have been $hite for the vast majority of games (barring Bournemouth, Chelsea and Everton A) since Jan

I think that’s fair, but your opening post is a bit premature. Maybe he won’t be able to fix this, but he has pulled us out of slumps before. Granted, not by buying his way out. My fear is that the more players we get the more confused and muddled we get. I think that’s why he’s sticking with the likes of Clarke to see if we can start developing partnerships.

When we start making wholesale changes is probably when we need to worry that he’s losing it. Clarke, Philogene and Sammie downplay a lot of football last year. And with Azor and Taylor behind them that’s almost a new midfield/forward line that needs to get used to each other. I think we need time (I hope that’s all it is and I’m not sure how much time).

Of course it is but if he leaves to join another club now there will be a lot of supporters who won’t forgive him after the support shown to him.

Not so sure about that. Given the mood of this board tonight there seems to be lots of ludicrously impatient supporters who would seemingly be happy to see him go. Your OP demonstrates you have no confidence in him turning around performances.

It’s not really though is it ? 2 wins in 40 ? Any other manager would have been long gone. Yes he has done a great job here, but he is stubborn as hell and won’t change things. Ashton isn’t free from this either. He doesn’t seem to want to kick him up the arse to get it sorted.
