We have the second best xGA (expected goals against) in the division 18:00 - Aug 23 with 974 viewsJ2BLUE

I appreciate it's after just three games but that's not stopping others posting all sorts of sh1te. Today, without the penalty, Preston had an xG of 0.05.

We are not clicking going forward with the 19th best xG in the division but it will click. There is too much attacking talent here not to pick up as the season goes on. We are currently underperforming our xG by 0.48 goals per game.

It's not as bleak as some people are making out. I know this boards needs a meltdown to cleanse itself these days which is sad and I know there will be all sorts of replies twisting things, denying the stats and being determined to believe it's all over. No problem, get it out of your system. I will probably just ignore you.

I don't think defence is the biggest issue.

Yes, that's why I mentioned the attack getting better while the defence is already strong, albeit on very limited data.

Yes that stacks up, although no clean sheets either but I don’t think anyone is panicked about the defense at this level. Although sometimes players do seem to get in between our CBs on balls into the box.

Going to be a very different season to last time at this level.

Why even bother to go and watch a game of football if some stats put together by a nameless individual trumps everything including the match experience? How depressing.
Some people truly have been brainwashed by data.
I'll stick to be disappointed by a underwhelming performance.

Some truth in this, people have ignored the eye test too much.

Not sure there has been too much moaning about the defence over the summer, a few about the keeper options to be fair. But our midfield and attacking options have been a concern all summer. Getting Cajuste back is an obvious positive and I don't think Azor has put a foot wrong. But our top 6, be it in a 3 2 1 or 2 3 1 look well off the pace as an attacking force.

On a similar topic, I just checked FotMob, the stats were very different for Preston v Leicester last Saturday.

14 shots and 4 big chances they created, relatively interesting how different those two games were.

Not sure it means a great deal today when you’re 1 nil down after 11 minutes. They had something to defend and were perfectly happy to sit in for 80 minutes and do just that, and they executed it. These are the sort of games that become very difficult when you go behind against stubborn sh1thouse defences who sit deep and look to kill the game.

We had 100M+ on the pitch to unlock it.

How does that help when we don’t have a shot on target mate?

So did Leicester last week. We should’ve done a lot more with the possession we had, we didn’t create a lot and barely tested their keeper. A very disjointed performance, I actually thought we were starting to look a bit more dangerous before the triple sub but that seemed to take us backwards if anything. Poor day at the office.

Don’t care about Leicester really.

Chaplin isn’t great off the bench I’d rather start him than bring him on.

Totally agree. Some people really just need a night out to get it out of their systems, but these days stay in and smash their keyboard instead. Sad times.

There’s only one statistic that counts at the end of the day. PNE 1 ITFC 0. No statistic is going to change the cold hard truth.

Not sure what point you were making about the £100m tbh. I haven’t seen anyone suggest it was anything but really disappointing. Just that Xg against is a bullsh1t measure when we gave them a lead to defend for 90% of the game.

Yup the evidence of my eyes today is that we have no bite up front and are vulnerable to crosses at the back.
Lies, damn lies and statistics.

It is a weird stat though. When Coventry were 6-0 up their xG was under 1. They finished on 1.1.

(I realise that for rather than against, but both can be misleading).
