My thoughts on yesterday... 11:12 - Aug 24 with 2707 views | bluesym | Having slept on it,im a bit torn. I try to be level headed when it comes to Town. First half, was a very flat display,it was like a pre-season friendly. We had lots of the ball and looking back created a couple of good chances,Hirst has to ht the target at the very least with his. 2nd half- signs we were looking more like old selves. Better use of the ball, passages of play,we pretty much played the game in their half. I think if we beat Derby Saturday,a weight will come off our shoulders and wouldn't be surprised to see us go on a run. Also, let's be clear here,Preston were gash and bar the soft penalty they had nothing at all. They played like a lower league side in a cup game, which as we've all seen before can get you the win. (Plymouth v Liverpool last yr in the cup) The Dutch boy is getting better each week by the way. Laughably written off by some people after a couple of games, but he is getting better as he settles in. I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't a touch concerned, but,I dont think we are far away from clicking either. Couple more solid additions next week and I think we will be fine. Also, cracking little social club we parked at 20 mins walk from the ground, very welcoming and a nice couple of pints before the game went down a treat. [Post edited 24 Aug 14:54]

For playing wingers, second half, I don’t see any dangerous balls into the box. Set pieces were also a non event. Of course with playing in their half you’ll create the odd half chance but that came the bounce of the ball after then blocking shots or putting in tackles, Preston really limited us from creating. Very labored. [Post edited 24 Aug 14:49]

Ive just realised there's a typo in my summary, I'll amend. I meant to say more like our old selves, although i deliberately didnt want to go overboard.

My thoughts on yesterday... on 11:15 - Aug 24 by Marshalls_Mullet | To be fair, when Cajuste is back, I think the back line and the CM's is solid. Palmer Young O'Shea Greaves Davis Cajuste Matusiwa .........We just need to find the right formula for the front four. |
The little problem they have which served well is confidence in the keepers feet, We don't play the short goal kicks with any confidence it was a great tool for inviting the attackers in the breaking fast that's pretty much gone, O'Shea and greaves don't like it to feet, greaves slightly more comfortable, So this has stalled our forward play, In itself as a defensive unit the defence is doing its job I'd say,

Can't bear it when this argument is rolled out. It's a forum where people express opinions ffs

We weren’t though we were just passing the ball around slowly which they were happy for us to do.

My thoughts on yesterday... on 15:04 - Aug 24 with 418 views | backwaywhen | Moor Park with the snooker tables in , if so we went there also , lovely couple pints and a ham roll to boot , also just £3 to park . Our record at Deepdale is not good and we’re not quite clicking as a unit , but we will get watch this space and keep the faith everyone.

I tend to think that McKenna is having to find space in the team for the big price players at the expense of others; Greaves, Clarke, Szmodics and Philogene. Though none of them are playing that well. Burgess was better at tackling, heading and a lot better at filling in behind Leif, Greaves has been left stranded up the pitch so many times.
My thoughts on yesterday... on 16:38 - Aug 24 with 348 views | PioneerBlue | I have watched a few sections of the game back. I’ve read some utter dross here over the last 24 hours. We’ve not played that badly. We’ve had 70 odd percent possession. We’ve had 15 shots and carved them open in free play a few times. We’ve defended 1 cross into the box badly. We’ve not attacked with the quality we have nor with the intensity required to win a game. We are not far off given the changes that have been made. Stop with the ridiculous panic.

Of course we had 70%, they put 11 men behind the ball! Many were pot shots because passages of play were not leading to any good chances in the box, outside of a couple of blocked tackles that fell to us.

My thoughts on yesterday... on 16:56 - Aug 24 with 306 views | PhilTWTD | I thought it felt a bit like a lot of games in League One in Kieran's early time here, dominating but failing to win, the team learning to implement his ideas, gel as a unit, develop the partnerships he talked about in his post-match press conference. Hence I asked him about it feeling like he's having to develop a new team.

I think there’s also times we are going to need to be a little more direct when up against it as well. A couple of long balls at the death yesterday caused them problems. On the first one Chaplin is greedy instead of teeing up Cajuste after Hirst won the ball from Young. On the second (right at the end) I think Chaplin might be in but Hirst puts it behind him, in the end just leads to pinball. Defenses when they’re tired need to be tested with more balls into the box. [Post edited 24 Aug 17:04]

I was thinking we don't really have an option to put up front and put it in the mixer in the latter stages giving us a change of approach. Burgess used to take that role on occasion in the past. Not the way we want to play, but if we've been unable to play our way through them we need another option.

Yep! Going to be times (especially) on the road we’re going to have to play down to their level. [Post edited 24 Aug 17:10]

My thoughts on yesterday... on 11:47 - Aug 24 by tcblue | He does seem like an odd signing, probably the closest to a panic buy we've done. I do think we'd be in a better place had we kept faith in Muric (when he was back from injury). On Preston, I thought Small and Pol Valentin were very good. |
Preston were all very good at what they did. Ran their hearts out, strong in the challenge and throw themselves to ground at the first opportunity to gain a foul. They played their tactics very well but I wouldn't want to watch them. It's another reason why the Premier League has to be the goal, although being competitive in it is a must too.

One of the best defensive bodies on the line performances I can remember to be fair to them.
