For those complaining of our slowness this transfer window 21:22 - Aug 26 with 4032 viewsGuthrum

Here is a table of the number of signings for each Championship club recorded on Wikipedia since 1st June.

The average number of signings is 6.7 - we have signed 6, so pretty much on the mark. That does not include Button, by the way.

I might do some more detailed analysis on timelines later if I get the chance.

More revisionism at play. We didn’t ‘bin our entire midfield’, Cajuste and Phillips weren’t ours, We had a 34 year old captain who still had one year of his contract remaining, but was clearly diminishing and would almost certainly have been back up to Matisiwa this season, until he was offered a life changing contract in Kuwait. What right do we have to have stopped him going?

Cajuste was re-signed after Hackney turned us down - before the season started. Luongo was clearly diminishing too and was also destined for the occasional appearance and cup starts

Our top goalscorer and most creative player were always going as was Broadhead, who had wanted out for two previous windows.

Clarke would be getting moved on if he wasn’t injured and Burns is on his way back.

As for the players who were "always going", I agree. Yes, they were always going. But this thread is about how many signings have been made, and my central point is just that a numerical statement of incomings on its own means nothing without considering outgoings too. A table that states the number of outgoings as well will paint a very different picture. The reason for their departures is not the point I'm making. Just that you have to have the number of departures as well as arrivals. I'm not suggesting we could have stopped Delap leaving, or that we should have stopped Hutch leaving. The former's clause was triggered. The latter wanted to leave and we held out for a very handsome fee.

My point as regards the midfield is that changing the entire thing is a huge upheaval and in my view was quite unnecessary. Luongo would have improved each midfield performance this season, and would have been a more than good enough squad player in this division.

Morsy was under contract and was the heartbeat of our side. What right do we have to stop him? A contractual right. He was not diminishing in my view. He had the highest points per game of all of our midfielders last season, including Cajuste, who for some reason seems to be more highly revered. If we decided that we shouldn't try to keep him here when he wanted to play for some tinpot petroteam, then at least hold out for a decent fee. If he was going because his destination club was loaded, then they can afford a fee. I cannot think of a single example of any club letting go a club captain (and legend to many) when still under contract, and when they wanted him to stay, crucially, without any fee. I'll happily be corrected, but I've not read any examples from anyone else.

We took forever to get Cajuste back. He wasn't here for pre-season, and played no significant part in our first few games. I'm glad he's back. I think he'll do a job at this level, even though I don't rate him as highly as some on here seem to.

Phillips' loan ended, yes. Relying on the loan system is all well and good (Hutch's original loan was a great effort and it would have been nice to pull off a similar trick this year, but ho hum), but if you're going to be reliant on loans which will by definition end, in my view it's perplexing to get rid of the other non-loan players in the same position at the same time.

To be in a position where you have to rebuild an entire team (by Kieran's own admission) is unfortunate. To be in a position where you have a financial advantage over the rest of the division and still haven't rebuilt that team several games into the season is negligent.

And how many of those nine were the primary option in their position? Four, maybe? Delap, Hutchinson, Morsy, Tuanzebe. Apart from Delap, their roles are now at least covered (we already had other 'keepers at the club).

Burns is on his way back to fitness after an injury last season, so is not a loss who needs replacing with a new signing.

The point is that you have to take into account outgoings as well as just incomings.

Your point seems to be "we've not done at all badly when compared with how many signings other teams have made". But that point is totally devoid of any meaning unless you consider how many players those other teams have lost. It's either spin or its just disingenuous.

You go out to the shops to get what you need. If someone has got 4 kids to feed, comparing their shopping basket to that of a single person is meaningless.

Also there are alot of clubs who have to sell first to buy or be very selective who they bring in as it can financially make or break their window.

We've got that luxury of parachute payments.

What would be handy to know is of previous relegated clubs who's ambition was to return immediately and had a high turnover of players. How was their window at this point.

That list shows how many players clubs have signed. Not how long its taken the clubs to actually recruit the player from being linked, to getting it over the line.

You could always look it up. Burnley signed 7 players in the final few days of the window last season for example.

There isn't really much point comparing us to anyone else. Every club situation is unique. You can say we have the luxury of parachute payments but that doesn't mean a lot if you are competing with PL clubs or waiting on other clubs to make players available.

Here are players who have gone from Champ teams to other clubs (sold, free, loans) so far this window.

We have the most, but not far ahead of Leicester and Southampton.

….interesting stats.

Wiggle it, just a little bit.

He didn't do enough last season to convince anyone he's good enough for the Premier League yet. He wouldn't be here if he did.

But surely that is *exactly* the point.

WHY HAVEN'T WE SIGNED ANY AMAZING WOW PLAYERS??!?

Well we've signed a Swedish international from a Serie A club with premier league experience.

NO, HE WOULDN'T SIGN FOR US IF HE WAS GOOD WOULD HE?

And that's exactly precisely 100 percent the problem we are dealing with. We aim for players who in an ideal world don't want to be in this league at this point in time.
