Were we actually that bad today?

I'd argue that Derby disrupted our play by their time wasting tactics, but when we did pass the ball around we did create a fair few chances and looked quite good. The second Derby goal was poor from us....our defence seemed to part like the red sea from where I sit at PR.

Obviously the referee played his part as well. Derby will argue that Leif could have been sent off for that handball, but we will argue that Travis should have been sent off for kicking Cajuste, and also had an earlier penalty for the clear foul on Hirst.

Just because we didnt get 3 points doesnt mean we played badly in my opinion.

Those calling for McKenna's head now need to give their heads a wobble. Whilst I agree that we will need to start getting wins on the board soon, I cant see McKenna being sacked after the club buying players im guessing he wanted.

This international break has come at a good time for us - it will give McKenna the chance to work on things and integrate the newbies into how we play, and hopefully we will pick up that elusive win against Sheff Utd next time out.

We should be getting behind the club now rather than moaning about signings and wanting McKenna out! Remember folks, follow the Town, up or down!

Much better than last week against PNE, but still room for improvement.

One of the problems with the international break is that a number of players will not be at the club,, thus diminishing the opportunities to get them to gel.

No - first half didn’t score the second goal only prob. Second half - not so good when we stopped defending properly and decided not to play football, they won the game by drawing. Derby tactics second half were probably as bad as I’ve seen and the ref seemed bought into enabling their every act.

The problem in this league probably 70% of teams will do the same, especially against us now they can all see we crumble under intense pressure and physical play, that’s the biggest problem! you can definitely see small improvements, but we still play the ball in to empty space at times because we don’t have a settled side or any partnerships in the team formed yet, like Davis and philogene , by the time Davis released the ball philogene had a derby player on his back, it wasn’t much different with macateer and young or more worrying palmer O’Shea and greaves.

But we didn't crumble, we got worn down in places. That is the challenge for McKenna, to keep us competitive all over the pitch for the full game, thus exposing the wear and tear we can wreak on the opposition.

We threw a 1-0 lead away in the second half when we should have capitalised on it, mainly because of derby kicking lumps out of us, ramping up the pressure on us and man handling us all over the pitch, I’d say we crumbled/cracked under that pressure, pretty much the same as Southampton , we need to be able to deal With it, manage it, or this will be the case all season.

No and, slightly yes.

The yes is easy - we gave them two goals. Some poor decision making that lead to both. Not ideal and very much punished like we were last year, which is odd in the Championship as typically you do get away with one.

The spell after we scored was very much how we know we can play (as I posted yesterday), lots of movement, runs, passing patterns, chances etc. We can clearly see it's still there.

Derby made the game utterly turgid and that's going to be the reality at PR this season. I suspect away fans will enjoy the football more this season.

We deal with it by giving the opposition more problems than they give us. That's football, teams don't turn up with the intention of handing three points to us unless we do something really stupid, it is always eleven versus eleven (except when there are sending offs or a player goes off injured when all the substitutions have been made) and it would become boring and predictable to watch if everything were that straightforward.

Agree with most of the opening comments.

Not sure the international break comes at a good time for us and it certainly doesn’t help that our next game is away and brought forward to Friday evening for Sky.

It is a little worrying that one of the on field partnerships that needs working on is between two CBs who played together last season. Three at the back, which more and more teams seem to be playing, would bring an improvement but can’t see KMc making the change.

Watched Boro v Blades on Sky and Sheffield’s defence was all over the place. A win really is a must, no excuses.

Was the first header at 1-0? If he makes it 2 then it's game over.

The one good thing we did is the centre halves dribbled deep into their half. I've always said you cannot pass around the low block, you must dribble. Jack Clarke was the answer to the game, in fact all games. Run at the low block and make them foul you. Simple.

What struck me was we let a poor opponent and referee take the game from us, and truly good sides don't do that.

Made me think of boxing. There are places and opponents where you know if it goes to points you aren't getting the decision. So, you go all out for the stoppage, and take the judges away from having a say in the outcome. Said it after all the faff about Leicester at home last year - penalties and sendings off are irrelevant if you are already 3-0 up.

Think as a team it would be more fruitful to focus on how slow, and generally short of a plan, ideas and threat we look rather than low block s-housery and refs.

We are at home to Sheffield United on Friday.
McKenna has a bewildering number of new players to integrate and the signs so far are not encouraging. Let's hope thing look better & there are some signs of a settled team by the end of September.
