Anyone else not know what to make of Lula ? 10:40 - Sep 18 with 1203 views | WeWereZombies | https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c3rv981qv4go 'Lula has frequently criticised Trump, but this is the clearest signal yet that he thinks communication between him and his US counterpart is now broken. Even though the US has a trade surplus with Brazil, Donald Trump imposed 50% tariffs on Brazilian goods in July, citing the trial on coup charges of Brazil's right-wing former president Jair Bolsonaro as a trigger. Lula described the tariffs as "eminently political" and said US consumers would be facing higher prices for Brazilian goods as a result.' All very reasonable, but 'The Brazilian president attended the World War Two anniversary celebrations in Russia this year and has not cut ties with President Putin. Asked who he had a better relationship with - Trump or Putin - he defended his ties to the latter, saying they had formed them when they had both been presidents "in previous times".'

He has the choice of Santos, Flamengo and Fluminense and he chooses the Nodge ? I think you must be getting confused by the yellow and green colours he wears... Mmmm, now I'm thinking about a couple of slices of Battenberg served on a few freshly cut mint leaves - but I have none of either in the house. Heaven knows, I'm miserable now.

I am probably missing a reference but don't really understand your post. However I think that for the first time in decades I found a Googlewhack when I put 'Battenberg Tuxedo' into the search bar. My last one was 'Canary intelligence', also prompted by a post on the forum. Anyway, did you know that the youngest of Queen Victoria's granddaughters was born in Scotland, became Queen of Spain and was also a Battenberg: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria_Eugenie_of_Battenberg

Yes, I know that. They are also a founding member of the United Nations, a G20 member and a G4 partner, Mercosur's biggest member and an OAS member. A diverse economic and diplomatic pot as any. It was Lula's reticence at finding fault in Putin in the way he found fault in Trump that troubled me, but maybe didn't surprise me as I have found this pro-Russian stance in conversations in Africa. Despite any aspirations towards a socialist and democratic state being long gone in Russia nations who still have those aims look to Russia, even more than China, for support in their hopes of land reform, debt cancellation and an economic levelling up rather than place any great hope in the United States and Europe.

I'm really not keen on the term 'Global South', it's too broadbrush and focused on a United States outlook. Rich nations like New Zealand and Australia are south of the equator, nations rich in resources and with massive investments but poor income distribution like South Africa and Argentina also, rising nations like Brazil and Nigeria, progressive democracies like Botswana and Namibia. The term is too binary and is just not fit for purpose in a World of BRICS, MINTs and CIVETs (as well as the Tiger cubs) in my opinion.

Anyone else not know what to make of Lula ? on 16:55 - Sep 18 with 158 views | shady | I particularly enjoy the scenario of beverage tariffs. The MAGA ideal is to be self sufficient, but in this case its not possible as the geography of the US is not conducive to growing any tea and coffee. So what does the genius Tarriff King do? Puts large tariff on Brazil for their coffee and incalculable amounts on the largest tea growers…China and India. Now there are probably clauses that exempt certain taxes that I’m unaware of, and also tea is grown in bulk in many other nations. But still, let them all drink alcohol

And, indeed, in reverse, with various relatively young nations, from around or south of the equator, regarding their former colonisers.
