Mathie doesn't seem confident. on 13:25 - Sep 23 with 209 views | Trequartista | I was very surprised to see that, had to re-read a few times to check i'd understood it correctly. He's seen all the games so his opinion has worth, but with the squad we now have, there would have to be a significant failure somewhere for us not to be challenging for automatic promotion.

I hope not but we have been on a awful run months.Apart from a awful Sheffield United we have hardly excelled over the last ten months. |
Are other teams allowed to make mistakes? Some of our fans hold us up to such high standards. Unrealistic standards, some may say. I wonder if this is par for the course at all clubs.

Or at this point in time perhaps realistic.

Well if comparing us to other clubs is what you want to do, then there's an established way of doing that. We're 17th, and we've beaten one team, who have lost all of their games. So we're behind 16 teams. Oh, and mighty Bromley. Even forgetting the Blackburn debacle, and assuming that the EFL Board get us out of jail there, 6 points from 5 league games is so very far from playoff form. Mathie's right, it will be a tough ask. It's far from impossible of course, but the bookies' odds putting us favourites for the title still are just plain bonkers.

KM really needs a strategy to play at places like Preston and Blackburn. Teams will more often than not play like Derby at PR as well. These games will be a slog which doesn’t suit us. KM must find a way to get results from these type of games. Mathie is spot on regarding the Blackburn goal. |
We're only playing catch-up on one parachute club though, potentially none if Leicester receive their penalty. That's notable because it's the parachute clubs which routinely clear 90 points. Remove our 23/24 heroics and the next best points tally for a non-parachute club in the past 5 years is 80. We'd need to go at 1.83-1.88 points per game from here to exceed that, dependent on the Blackburn outcome. So while I don't rule out a non-parachute club repeating our feat, or getting close to 90, it isn't obvious yet imo that we've lost much ground compared with what we thought we'd need to do before the season started, which was to average 2 PPG or higher.

I don't think we've given many chances this season at all, a couple of goals with more obvious errors have perhaps put the focus on them and then the red card at the weekend, which was a lot to do with the conditions, as was everything else in the match, to be honest. |
People are disappointed, possibly angry, with the likes of Burgess and Woolfenden going, so look for almost any opportunity to point errors in the current 1st choices. I feel for Greaves as those who pick holes on him always seem to refer to the fact he cost £18M more than his predecessors - that was not his choice, and I feel that sits heavily on his shoulders as well . . . | | | | Login to get fewer ads
