"It's not fair. I think Blackburn would have gone on and won that game which would propel them right up the league and two points outside the play-offs."

Well I actually think we'd have had a Szmodics hat trick in extra time so

Why don't you call them up and give the Ipswich perspective and get it on that page ;)

That whole "It's not fair" rhetoric is pointless. The rules are the rules. Every club in the FA and subsequently the EFL sign up to them every season.

We don't get to contest the Greaves suspension because the rules say that cards issued stand, even if the match is abandoned. You don't see ITFC moaning about that.

I agree with you, barty.g. I think we were in the ascendency and, had the pitch been playable, could easily have seen us grab a point at least.

The fairest outcome is a replay. If they don't believe they can replicate their form and get 1-0 up again, then I question their belief that they would have won the game under acceptable playing conditions.

Maybe, but i guess its honest too - I'm sure they would be gutted. Have to say, I would guess that most neutrals would side with Blackburn on this - a replay seems very harsh on them, when you guys were a man and goal down.

Everyone loves a bit of conspiracy so I'm gonna chuck one in.

What if the efl have asked for extra time to discuss it as they're fed up of Blackburn not sorting the pitch out and are thinking of rewarding ipswich the win with Blackburn being forced to forfeit the game.

a niche perspective

Henry Winter has also had a say but his stuff is behind his own paywall. Mad that this game has got so much attention. Simply has to be replayed. Them’s the rules.

Haha, nice idea, but I doubt it would hold any weight.

It would, though, be nice if Championship clubs had a standard that was commensurate with their league status, regarding playable pitches.

Even though Portman Road is on a flood plain, and the Cobbold/South corner was always troublesome, in the 15 years I worked there, I can barely remember more than one or two games that were called off due to the pitch.

One of those was against Middlesbrough I believe, and all of us office staff were out on the pitch Friday afternoon with shovels helping the ground staff clear the snow. It got called off the following day because the temperature didn't rise enough to thaw the pitch. Not our fault. It was a shame, but us office staff had a blooming good time mucking in that day, and it was great for team morale.

I've just been playing golf with a Blackburn fan who told me that they have a system there where water which drains off the pitch goes into large tanks, so that it then can be recycled when needed. If the tanks get full, they let the water flow into the River Darwen. However, if the river is above a certain level, this is not allowed & that was the case on Saturday so the water had nowhere to go.

If there's any blame to be apportioned it should be on Blackburn for not ensuring their pitch would be playable for 90+ minutes, and if there was any doubt, they should have called it off that morning.

'Replaying the whole game' isn't possible as the whole game didn't take place. Not going to bother reading beyond the first four words.
