RIP Ming Campbell on 12:32 - Sep 26 with 557 views | BlueForYou | I knew him first as an athlete when growing up. A thoroughly decent guy who epitomised fairness, & always had full respect for others including adversaries. Conducted himself with true dignity at all times, modern politicians could learn much from him. A credit to Scotland & the Nation. RIP. [Post edited 26 Sep 13:33]

Or Dalziel ‘Dee Yell’?! R.I.P. ‘Ming’ Campbell - talented athlete, barrister, and one of that very rare breed “decent politicians”. Opposed the Iraq war.

It's because in Scotland his surname is pronounced mingis. It's to do with the z and, for anyone interested, here's an article about it which also mentions Dalziel. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4595228.stm When I was young, and John Menzies was a thing, my mother used to point out to me the Scottish pronunciation, when everyone I knew pronounced it differently. Approaching 66, that's what worries me too, and I'm not in the public eye.

People I knew who were involved in the LibDems in the early 2000s were less flattering about his political ruthlessness. Still, a distinguished athletics and parliamentary career.
