You clearly never shopped at John Ming back in the day.

RIP

I'm going to spend the rest of the day in the garden, sitting on the wooden boundary structure between my property and my neighbours

It's what he would have wanted

I knew him first as an athlete when growing up. A thoroughly decent guy who epitomised fairness, & always had full respect for others including adversaries. Conducted himself with true dignity at all times, modern politicians could learn much from him. A credit to Scotland & the Nation. RIP.

Or Dalziel ‘Dee Yell’?!

R.I.P. ‘Ming’ Campbell - talented athlete, barrister, and one of that very rare breed “decent politicians”. Opposed the Iraq war.

It's because in Scotland his surname is pronounced mingis.

It's to do with the z and, for anyone interested, here's an article about it which also mentions Dalziel.

When I was young, and John Menzies was a thing, my mother used to point out to me the Scottish pronunciation, when everyone I knew pronounced it differently.

He always struck me as a true gentleman.

Not many of his ilk these days.

Approaching 66, that's what worries me too, and I'm not in the public eye.

People I knew who were involved in the LibDems in the early 2000s were less flattering about his political ruthlessness. Still, a distinguished athletics and parliamentary career.
