Town and narwich have been in the same division over the past 16 years on just FIVE occasions!
eg :
Ipswich Town and Norwich City were in the same division during the 2023-24 season, and the period from the 2019-20 season to the 2022-23 season, inclusive, making them
2019-2020, 2020-2021, 2021-2022, 2022-2023: These were the seasons Ipswich Town and Norwich City were in the same division...
We therefore did not beat them in those 5 years ... they I think, only beat us twice in that period , and we drew the remaining games. So it would be more accurate of them to claim weve not beaten them in a five years period between 2019-2024....

I would argue that attempting to pretend some years didn't exist is a bigger distortion.
We've not beaten them for 16 years, you can change the framing to say we haven't beaten them in N matches and both are factually correct.

True, and they have so little to celebrate I think it churlish to begrudge them this slight, bleak crumb of comfort. Bring it to an end on Sunday and they can still cling on to 'Sixteen years' in the same way that Republicans in the United States celebrated George W.'s 'Four More Years'...because that is still so much of the zeitgeist, isn't it ? This really is nail on the head isn't it. There is no point trying to pretend that stat doesn't exist, it does, and it hurts as an Ipswich fan. I think anyone saying it doesn't is telling a little fib.
Beating them, and breaking that hold they seem to think they have over us could really send them on a downward spiral for the rest of the season.

Feels like 16 years to me tbh Arnie, not helped by the barren years mostly being because we were in a division below. I can see the argument for 15 years because we "de facto" won last season (no contest because they weren't good enough to play us), but the PL campaign went too badly for us to really enjoy the sense of being a PL club.
They were superior on the pitch for a long old time; we should have formalised the return to natural order in our home game two seasons ago but we saved our least clinical performance for that day alas! Now we aren't playing quite as well, at least in the most crucial sense of chances created vs conceded, and matches won, but they've taken a further step backward since we last played them. Oh God , it FEELS a lot longer than 16 yrs, lol. But its simply not possible to beat , lose or draw against any team if you dont actually play them, and the actual facts are we've only been in the same division for 5 seasons in that 16 yr period. That is a a fact ... not a manipulation of them...

I’m afraid I don’t follow any of this at all.
We last beat them in April 2009. One of the Gio dos Santos games. 3-2.
Since then, we’ve played them 14 times without winning. That includes 4 games in 2014/15, when they beat us in the playoff semi-finals.
The years when we’ve been in the same division were the following:
2010/11
2014/15
2016/17
2017/18
2018/19
2023/24
[plus this season: 2025/26]
So in the infamous 16 year period, we’ve completed 6 seasons against them, one of which contained 2 additional games against them in the playoffs. 14 games: 8 losses, 6 draws.
I don’t follow what you say about 2019/20 to 2022/23, as we weren’t in the same division at that time, whereas you seem to say we were. Why would it be more accurate to claim we’ve not beaten them in a 5 year period between 2019-2024 when we played them in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 and didn’t win on any of those occasions?
I’m pretty sure we’d be crowing just like them if the roles were reversed. 14 failures in a row is a lot. But let's beat them this weekend and shut them up. |  | | |
