Remember being really excited about him at a time when we didn't have much to get excited by and was disappointed he didn't get more of an opportunity, but I guess time has shown he wouldn't wouldn't have been good enough for us as we climbed the leagues.

Still, one of my favourites from back then and hope he can push on.

Always looked like a nearly man.

Good but not great, and if he couldn't stand out in that team, then he wasn't going to be part of the project here once the cash started rolling.

Really glad he has made a career for himself though.

Similarly, Josh Carson was one I thought would.make the grade for us. See also Jack Lankester.

Yep, another two that could be mentioned in a similar vein.

I guess things were so hopeless at the time that we were all looking for the next big things to rise from the youth ranks to rescue us. But apart from Downes there wasn't anyone who would have stayed with us as we rose through the divisions. Although I've often wondered what McKenna could've done with Andre Dozzell.

Yes I remember Dobra being a little sunlight in those dark days .. did he crossover with Celina ? If so the two of them gave me some joy.

Yeah, I think they did crossover. Loved Celina. Was amazed we could get a player of his quality, especially in League 1, but even he wouldn't get anywhere near being in our current squad.

I remember putting a compilation together of his debut against Luton. He looked brilliant and likewise was really excited about him. Still time to kick on at 24, fingers crossed for him.

Think Chesterfield were pleasantly surprised no one matched the fee for him in the summer. Don't think he'll be there too much longer, a number of bigger League One sides have been eyeing him.

I really don’t feel there is much difference between top end of national league and bottom half of league 1. I think he can definately ba an accomplished league 1 player but agree not at the level we have now climbed to.

Exciting player at the right club in the right league though for sure!

He was very raw when he was with us. He looked like a cage / street footballer who had a lot of flicks and tricks and would make for a good highlights reel, but not necessarily what we needed away at Rotherham in League 1, certainly not at that time. He might never prove himself at that level, but certainly at 19 its difficult to not get eaten up, especially with his diminutive stature.

He didn't mention his loan with Colchester. That was a disaster and the last straw for me. I really rated him and he just wasn't good enough. So don't think he can blame us for not giving him a chance in L1 at 19 when he still hasn't got to L1 at 24.
Good luck to him not giving up and hope he can make it up the ladder.

LOVE Dobs and hope he continues to strive forward - can easily see him being a 'late bloomer' and making it up to at least the Championship in the next couple years. Great attitude and definitely has the talent. Consistency is what he needs.
