What does Ashley Young need to do to get in the pitch? 08:40 - Oct 18 with 1079 views | GlasgowBlue | Furlong offered zero attacking threat last night and was drawn into the middle far too often leaving massive space for their left attacker to run into.

What does Ashley Young need to do to get in the pitch? on 09:47 - Oct 18 with 918 views | BloomBlue | It did make me smile leaving the ground last night. A few fans moaning McK should have started with a different team, McK picked the wrong team etc. Made me wonder if those were the same fans moaning a few weeks ago about McK constantly changing the team, ie pick your best 11 and stick with it.

I have no concerns about LB in terms of whether Kieran is picking the right man. After all, we only have one left back, compared with 4 right backs, for reasons that entirely escape me. I don't think Kieran has ever been asked the reason for this weirdest of squad balancing decisions. Leif is so capable going forward, or certainly always used to be. But last night he had an absolute stinker defensively. So I wouldn't say there are no concerns at all at LB.

Okay then, debate not concern. There's no debate about LB (or GK & RCB) in terms of selection. There's debate everywhere else.

It’s less about individuals and more about the whole imo. I don’t think tinkering around the edges will do much. Most of these players have more than proven they’re good enough elsewhere in other teams.

Agreed, someone else put it nicely that we are less than the sum of our parts. Quite the opposite to our last promotion season. For balance I thought we’d put a nice run together and started to look like a good team, but tonight felt like a huge step backwards. I’ve no doubt we’d have lost the Blackburn game too had it not been abandoned. We just lack any robustness to impose ourselves away from PR. *perhaps we do need the experience of someone like Young away from home, who I thought was one of the better performers at Birmingham. They obviously thinks the team that started isn’t the best 11

What does Ashley Young need to do to get in the pitch? on 12:45 - Oct 18 with 535 views | jas0999 | Furlong looks very average to me. As you say he offers nothing going forwards. Defending is okay at best. Young has to start. It would be wrong to just single out Furlong though … several really poor performances on the road this season.

Furlong was ok when he was playing as a defensive fullback, he barely lost a header and he became a really solid addition to our backline But last night, he was all over the shop and I don't feel that's on him, you don't just decide to join every single ipswich attack.

What does Ashley Young need to do to get in the pitch? on 17:01 - Oct 18 with 303 views | DJR | I think it's not just not last night. He doesn't seem to link up with the player ahead of him, or when he is a bit more advanced have the ability to take the ball on himself. I suppose it could be said that Axel was not dissimilar in the sense of not being an attacking threat, but he was there for a reason and is a much better defender. I think it makes it very difficult for the player ahead of him because when they do get the ball they are often up against two players. It seems to me that both Johnson and Young offer much more of a threat going forward, and from what I have seen of Furlong would not weaken us defensively. [Post edited 18 Oct 17:09]
