Rationality out of the window 11:03 - Oct 18 with 904 viewswoodbridge_blue

Seems to me that the views on this forum have changed significantly in the last couple of years.

My old memory may be failing but I'm sure we had a much higher level of tolerance and more rational analysis of performances in the past compared to current times.

Now it appears we're world beaters one week and relegation candidates the next, there's no middle ground any more.

We're nine games into a 46 game season. Of course there were parts of the game last night which were poor, other parts very good. But people just need to calm down and let this group develop together. Enjoy the journey and get behind the team.

It's always been a hyperbolic, febrile polemic on here innit, even if the stance is one of swinging extremes. With a handful of level headed vaguely literate types plodding away with interesting analysis and views about cheese.

Plus ca change...

For so long it didn’t really matter if we won, drew or lost as we were going to finish mid table anyway. There was nothing to warrant getting overly carried away or get overly gloomy about. Most of us were numbed by all the mediocrity.

Things are different now, we’re favourites to win promotion and therefore we are currently under achieving expectations. We have spells in games where we look fantastic and then other spells where we are far too easily played through or nullified. Some people will focus on how good we look at times and say we’ll be fantastic when we click and others focus on the bad side and say this season is going to end in tears. Only time will tell who’s right.

Older fans want to see us back in the top flight performing well like how they remember when they were young. Younger fans want to see us have a proper crack at top flight football which they haven’t ever experienced. Basically hope, ambition and the fear of failure has driven many on here mad causing the wide array of emotions.

We all want promotion this year, many expect it and I suspect a lot are worried about what happens if we don’t go up. The team of 2 years ago performed a minor miracle to give us the chance to be big boys again, people are worried we have or are going to squander it.

My hobbies include being quiet during trips, clapping with songs, and diabetes.

The failures aren’t new, and they cost £200 million.

I think a team where we were under Evans spending nothing, likely won’t be good enough, and shouldn’t be.

Jen’s Phil Leif won’t be defensive dynamite in 46 or 466 games time, as brilliant as they are with the ball, and not signing ONE left sided CDM isn’t ever getting resolved, for such a crucial role in a McKenna team.

That’s 100% on him. We abt keep blaming the wether and the training pitch…, it’s a year now.., it’s not form.

Lots to be hugely positive about too, huge quality in this group.

But when you spend £200 million and you’re an EFL side, you SHOULD be much better than this group will ever be, in this system, with these players.

It’s not one or two players we’ve ruined is it…, it’s Greaves. Clarke, Sammie, Jens, Ogbenne, Macateer etc etc Walle too

We spent £200 million.

Do we look like a side that will ever look it has that level of quality???

We’re SO poor without the ball, even when we win…, awful. And this isn’t a high level, it’s not even a good championship, there for the taking.

Over to the teams whose coaches aren’t obsessed with signing players that DONT fit a system, just so they can prove how talented they are!!!

They’ll be more succesful than us. How could they not be. They put results and the club first.

We’re a proxy for McKenna.

That was obvious when he agreed to join Palace and Brighton and stayed for an eye watering pay rise.

It should have been obvious at least.

I think there’s a small batch of posters on here that come and wallow in defeat but then don’t post when we win, against Norwich say. It’s a bit sad really.

Dribbling on in the same witless fashion with your misery and negativity or, as I think you are, joy as a Norwich fan doesn’t make you right.

Repeating something endlessly does not make it factually correct. This £200m you keep wanging on about. Please could you roughly list the current players and their transfer fee as my maths is clearly poor compared to yours.

The rest of your post is too nonsensical to challenge.

I’m stunned you’ve not been banned, but that’s the prerogative of TWTDs excellent administrators.

I'm not really responding on his behalf, just posting reply to one of your points as i've made the point myself about the 200, it's more when i say it i mean it as in spent that amount to become what we are compared to what we had... its wrong anyway as we lost two of them lol.

But on the financial side, we did spent approx 60 mill euro plus additional loan fees etc

and when you do see that, and we drop points to the likes of preston who spent potentially £1 mill, thats when it does get a little concerning. Even with Boro we spent double maybe triple what they spent and blackburn nearly 6 times what they spent.

We'll see as the season progresses exactly what we;ve got for the money, but really midway through october, we shouldnt still be questioning really what weve bought, it should be obvious

That only works if you choose to ignore where we’d be without spending a penny piece and write down the value of the current players, including Muric, to zero. So Preston spent 1m and QPR £2m and we spent a lot more. We also received in profit 5x what QPR spent on Kone and Preston spent altogether on two players. What does that say? Not a lot.

There’s no automatic link between what you spend and what you get when it comes to footballers. It’s not FM25. Human beings with all their frailties and the vagaries of team dynamics. It’s not the players doing that fees are paid. To hang that round their necks is in my view wrong and self defeating.

As for questioning what we’ve bought, three things. Only the haters are doing that. How can you question a 19 year old who’s played literally a handful of games, just because a fee has been paid, so soon? It’s not right, but the bedsheet boys are. What did people expect? A version of Pele?

Secondly, the club and the player were slaughtered when Philogene was bought. Absolute pelters. ‘Send him back’ etc etc. All a bit quite over the last few weeks strangely.

Oh and one last thing, watching us against Norwich and Portsmouth, our players were individually better than theirs. In every way. You could see the difference and what was on the bench. Also, managers make mistakes in the transfer market, but I’d argue that our success record in the years since those much missed (by some) Evans days has been good. It was never going to be perfect.

It doesn’t prove anything unless one wishes to use it a stick to beat KM and the owners with. You can use stats negatively or positively. We’ve won only three games in nine (I expected better). We’ve lost twice in just under three months and nine games. I hope for only one loss.

And let’s face it, people like Doomhorse28 wish to use stats in this way for just that reason. The reality is he and many others want McKenna, Ashton and co gone. Out. I just wish they’d come out and be honest about it - they’re clearly not alone.

The owners and management are striving to build this club. Anyone who questions that really does need to give themselves a slap round the chops. They could really do with encouragement and patience of supporters, not just criticism, much of it unwarranted. But they can whistle Dixie for that here, sadly.

Completely agree with Most their Churchman

I guess what I meant by questionning, it's not about the individuals as players, we can review their pasts to know what we've got or what their potentials are, it's more I guess have we spent money in the right places, for example that 10 role is screaming out for a higher quality version of chappers or like a hutch, a ball carrier who could create, I think the vast majority don't feel that is sammy and I don't believe it's akpom from reviewing his past and cameos so far,

You can only comment on what you see and when it comes to last night it wasn’t good. Who has said we are relegation candidates? Some seem to be saying last night was fairly decent which is baffling to me personally. Mistakes, not clinical, lost in the middle of the park and open that’s not a great combination!
