Thoughts as we near the 1/4 point of the season 19:28 - Oct 18 with 940 views | IH_KGF | in short; - our home performances will be the reason we finish in the Playoffs but at the same time, - our away performances will be the reason we only finish in the Playoffs. I'm a little confused on McKenna's set up lastnight, I feel we look a little boring to watch, which wasn't the case as seem to be clearly so attack minded that we are left with huge gaping spaces in defence. The changes are like for like. Cajuste for all his quality is often a passenger, pulling out an amazing turn, or drifts beyond 2/3 players, then does nothing with it. SS runs, no end product. Hirst is the worry for me currently, he really needs to have some time coming on as impact player, starting games isn't helping him or us. I'm not ashamed to say I feel a little concerned at this point. Clearly not X Y or Z out - but I think discussing/questioning where we are failing currently is ok
Thoughts as we near the 1/4 point of the season on 19:53 - Oct 18 with 831 views | Swansea_Blue | To not beat about the bush, it’s been a big disappointment compared to what most of us seemed to expect (expectations always catch you out!). We are boring to watch in parts because we move the ball so slowly and uncertainly. Often this is because we’re trying to break down a low block, but not always. The game was quite open last night and we still laboured more than ‘Boro. The movement and understanding isn’t there. Our highs have come from individual excellence and not the team moves we had last time out in the Championship. To be pedantic we’re approaching 1/5th of the way through ;). But it’s a significant part of the season nonetheless. I’m prepared to be patient and hope it will come. Maybe we’ll bully our way over the line thanks to individual quality, but I was hoping for something a bit special from these supposedly better players than we had last time out. So far they’ve not lived up to the levels of the 23/24 lot in terms of quality, spirit and fight. We’re in a good position if we win our game in hand and it’s not the end of the world if we don’t. It’s a big ‘if’ though. On a kind-of-playable pitch in the first half, Blackburn were sharper than us. We need to find a way to impose ourselves in those away games or we’ll struggle to make playoffs. I hate to think how badly this lot would fare in the PL too. There’s no way we’ve got players ready to step up as some people seem to think (imo of course, and I hope I’m proven wrong). [Post edited 18 Oct 19:54]

Thoughts as we near the 1/4 point of the season on 19:57 - Oct 18 with 803 views | J2BLUE | If it continues as it is now, yes. It took the second place team an own goal and a missed penalty to beat us and that's when we were poor and they were the better team. It's interesting that Boro fans are being complimentary about us but we're all a bit down. They are judging by historical Championship performances. We're judging us against the football we've previously seen under McKenna. I am honestly not too concerned. We're barely out of second gear and yet we're a winnable game in hand away from sixth. People need to chill out.

Thoughts as we near the 1/4 point of the season on 20:00 - Oct 18 with 788 views | itfcsuth | We are exactly where our performances have left us, 12th in the Championship, a bang average mid table Championship side. We look a very dull, boring side. Lack a significant amount of quality, cohesion and quality. Absolutely miles off at the moment, on the current showing, we won’t be denting the play off positions.
Thoughts as we near the 1/4 point of the season on 20:12 - Oct 18 with 729 views | JammyDodgerrr | My thoughts are exactly the same as the start of the season. It's basically a question of whether or not McKenna can knit it together in time. We've largely been just OK throughout the season so far, yet have easily swept aside some teams, and we've only lost twice. Both of those were close, and I'm still baffled how we lost the Preston game. I think our team and squad are far better than basically any other team in the league, and we've seen it in flashes. It will all come down to how quickly can we put together the run, that the championship requires, to get towards the top of the table. We've got a nice little run of games, in terms of difficulty, and a lot at home, where hopefully we can start to piece it together more. [Post edited 18 Oct 21:43]

Out of interest, who are the Six that you feel will have more quality over the remainder of the season?

I worry he can’t, as we’re not seeing that cohesiveness getting much better. But I’m not going to say that out loud as people will think I’m a flouncing div. Kieran’s embarrassed several posters on here before and I don’t plan on joining them. I do have some worries though. I only see away matches, so am likely to be more negative.

Could be more than six. Doesn’t look a stretch at the moment to show more quality than ourselves, really lacking.

That isn’t the issue, though. On paper, there isn’t one team with more quality than us, but there are teams that won’t be letting the likes Birmingham, Preston and Derby bully points off them as meekly and naively as we have, so far. We concede so many ridiculously poor and preventable goals. I can’t remember the last time we kept a clean sheet away from home and, apart from a Sheff Utd team that wanted their manager gone, we don’t really do clean sheets at home either. We’re not playing the alleged world beaters we supposedly encountered week on week after Xmas, last season, but what should be fairly straightforward fodder at this level are now also finding it fairly easy to get at us. We were petrified of Birmingham on the opening night. A team that were two leagues below us just months earlier and every coach worth his salt in the Championship will have taken that on board.
