Grateful for where we are as a team 14:06 - Oct 23 with 1197 viewsjcolch1

Must begin by saying this isn't about our current league position, but more our standing now as a club. Having been a fan since 2008 and not had much to enjoy outside of the McCarthy play-off season and these last few incredible seasons, I am still incredibly happy that we are now an attractive club for players, run well with a top coach and not a mid-table League One club playing miserable football. Despite our mixed start to the season, I am just glad we have the ability to believe that we are a top end Championship club with aspirations of being a Premier League club, as that seemed impossible only a few seasons ago.

You support Norwich don’t you.

We spent £200 million to be worse than Evans and Mick who spent nothing.

I’m not quite sure you grasp the financial implications.., agree with you about the journey, but we have huge lags y liabilities now and the consequences of the worst season in our history, and this season which is regressive, are that when the liabilities remain, after parachute payments stop…, we have expensive players, nobody wants or can afford and no revenue to meet liabilities.

We don’t get to attract anyone in those circumstances, and for a long time.

Look at us before, and Norwich now.., it’s selling your best 3 or 4 players each year and not replacing them. At all. With any quality.

It can define a generation for a club.

So maybe less ‘please give me a thumbs up’ and shuffling your shoes, and more accountability and agency.

Because we can’t spend £200 million and be ‘ok’ with £5 million TV revenue, instead of £130 million!!

IT DOESNT WORK!!!

We pay McKenna MORE than our TV revenue for an entire season at this level!!!!

WAKE UP!

You meant to start with "You support Norwich as well, don’t you."

That would be more understandable.

I don't think you're in any position to suggest anyone else supports Norwich mate.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

A little too much acceptance about this post, as is quite common within our fanbase. A few factors are important about our position now, especially financially and the urgency to get back up.

Looking at the squad we could be in a bit of a mess if we are not promoted in the next two years.

Parachute clubs can't waste opportunities, especially looking at the league this year.

In the last 5 years 2 of the 3 clubs that have gone up have always been parachute payment clubs. Can't waste the advantage.

You're not wrong in anything you say, but I'll be waiting another 3-4 months before assessing where we are, and any need to panic.

Correct but not sure the OP understands where we might be as a team in 2028/29 if we have not bounced back.

Look at those lot up the A140. We won't have a better chance to establish ourselves as a PL club than getting back this season. I can see a couple of established clubs coming down this year as well.

All this, well its much better than it was 5 years ago, I kind of hate to be honest. It's how we take advantage of the NOW that is important.

Again, I agree, what has happened up the road is a lesson for us to learn from. We're in a very different position to where they have been over the last 5 years though, and so I'm confident that we won't repeat their decline. We shouldn't be oblivious to the possibility though.

Promotion in the next two years is basically vital.

100% true. All this money spent with nothing to show for it potentially spells disaster and there are quite a few fans happy just to not be in the Marcus Evans doldrums who could do with a reality check about that.

Yeah such a passive level of acceptance sometimes. The next two years could basically shape the next two decades.

No pressure lads.

Every negative is equally likely to be a positive. What if we click as a team? Maybe we get promoted? could we stay up next attempt?

Oh come on, what will be will be, nothing aggressive about it, just living in financial reality of modern day football. Hoping for the best, nothing we can do to change it apart from get behind the team. We just have not been in this position as a club as last time we went down it was basically the opposite in terms of financial impact on the relegation.

If we don’t get it this season, we’ll certainly be looking at a new face in the dug out come next August and who knows how that could go?

We have to make it top two this season, because do any of us really fancy the play-offs?

Penalty shoot-out against some big ugly units that squeak into 6th…Taylor and Hirsty shuffling forward to take penalties…

Nah, not for me guv.

I'm grateful for where the club is off the pitch. The training ground. Cat 1. For that I'm really grateful to the board.

But the team put together over the last 18 months just looks mismatched, unbalanced and doesn't really follow any meaningful process or policy.

People were pretty much saying the same thing, this time last year…

Just keep within touching distance of the prize, no need to panic, ignore the table, we’ll push on in January with a bit of canny recruitment and KM has had time to get his ethos across to the new boys….

He isn’t going to teach our defence anything in the next 12 weeks that will reverse the absolute deluge of goals we’ve conceded for the last 10 months.

Are you trying to say the thread is full of Negative Nellies who are sucking the enjoyment out of the board?

There’s certainly a lot of people who get out of bed the wrong side each day. I get it, we’re not right at the moment. We have no god given right to be though; every club is trying to do the best they can and every club has fans who moan like hell when they don’t do well. But that’s sport.

There’s always a couple of little seeds of accuracy in amongst the word pasta, so I’m not quite ready to dismiss him as a troll or budgie yet.

I actually quite enjoy picking the bits that ring true out of the rest of it.

I get that it triggers some fans but it isn’t offensive and it’s pretty easy to pop him on ignore if it causes too much upset, but I guess folks want to read it and howl foul…
