Anyone got a recommendation? Thinking of getting one for Christmas for the missus.

Looking for one that does a latte as that’s what she drinks. And ideally a hot chocolate option as well but that’s not necessarily a must. Don’t really want to pay more than £400 ish.

Don’t really even know where to start asides from blind googling

Poll: Would you take a draw tonight if offered right now?

This is why I love TWTD.

Not only have I got loads of suggestions, I’ve got people backing up other good suggestions and links to buy it.

That one looks perfect for us. I can have a hot chocolate and she can have her latte. It’s not gonna cost me a grand so I can get her some other Christmas stuff and its reviews on here and elsewhere are excellent. I’d never heard of it until now. That’ll do me.

Thanks bud.

And thanks all who replied. Very much appreciated.

So now you have the coffee machine all you neeed is one of these

and the 50's singles to fill it and you can re-create that authentic Soho Coffee Bar vibe.

Cool Daddy-O.

Great choice.

Most important thing to remember is buy coffee locally roasted and not from the supermarket. It sounds pretentious but the quality difference (by that I mean taste) is massive. It’s almost like two different drinks.

Any recommendations on local roasters and/or specific blends / origins from them?

In the past couple of months I've ditched the Nespresso machine and gone back to using an Aeropress and like you say, the flavour difference is huge.

So far I've been using CoffeeLink (Ipswich based & roasted), I sent a few bags of beans to a non-local coffee-aficionado friend who seemed pretty impressed with them.

I'd totally recommend the Rancilio Silva.

My first one i used with my business and it did over 30k coffees with no worries. Sadly when I moved back to the UK, i forgot how damn hard the water is in Suffolk and despite regular de-calcifying, the boiler clogged up and it finally died.

I had no hesitation in buying a replacement, the v6, and as expected it is brilliant.

I had a long discussion with the chief repair guy at the company i used to buy it from about how often to de-calcify etc. He basically said doing this too often is almost as bad as not doing it at all! His recommendation, something i have seen elsewhere on coffee forums, is get Ashbeck water from Tesco as it has as low calcium as any bottled water. So far, so good no calcification after 3+ years on new machine.

Huge modding scene, for upgrading etc. Brilliant steam wand.

As others have said you will need a quality grinder - mine has been going over a decade now.

great video on why to still buy this machine:

I have a Nespresso for coffee and velvetiser for hot chocolate. I think Ninja do a good one that does different drinks and is probably within that figure

We've got a Ninja air fryer, and a Ninja kettle, as well as a Shark (essentially the same company) vacuum cleaner, and all have been very good, so no doubts the coffee machine would be of similar quality.

Could be right... I simply google searched for the model number my mate had, so no knowledge of the site. So, may be best to shop around and get from a more reputable seller. Price varies quite a bit so should still be within the OPs budget.

I have a Melitta bean-to-cup machine - a fair amount of admin (cleaning and washing of various parts) but it makes superb coffee.

If you drink a fair amount of shop coffee this type of machine pays for itself quickly.

Got one of these for the Wife (I hate coffee). She likes it and TBH it's probably better that it nags me about cleaning, rather than just not realising that the innards of the machine you can't see disgusting.

On the chocolate front, we have a Velvetizer which is very nice, although we get big 1kg bags of drinking chocolate flakes online rather than bankrupting ourselves with Hotel Chocolat stuff.

Yeah I emailed them today and the response was very broke English and not what it ought to have been.

Will still buy it but from elsewhere - cheers all
