On what planet does Philo NOT start tomorrow.. 12:56 - Oct 31 with 2161 viewsWallingford_Boy

Our player of the season so far by a country mile, scores bangers for fun, nutmegs defenders, cuts inside and beats players with ease, he's on fire!!

Clarke is a super sub, keep it that way.

RIP Sir Bobby

“Our player of the season so far by a country mile

Disagree.

Devil’s advocate:
Only scored in 3 of our 13 games
0 away from home
0 assists anywhere

Also 1 goal in the last 5, whereas Clarke has a couple.

Not quite on fire, more a gentle smouldering. Occasionally he bursts into flames but those go out pretty quickly and back to a smoulder. Maybe Ashton is stealing all the oxygen?

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Obviously he’s a fair shout for POTS so far, but in no way a shoe in. That was my point. Some could say it’s increasingly looking more like a little hot streak, which is expected for a player of his profile / role.

He wouldn’t be my vote, anyway.

Not that you're getting carried away or anything.

He's had more games where he hasn't scored any bangers or really offered much, than games where he has.

It sounds perverse to criticise someone who is our top scorer and has scored some bangers. Indeed, goals are what it's all about and it's natural to be a bit blinded by them. However, as you say, three out of 13 games he's scored in, can be a bit anonymous, and isn't consistently really taking players on like I'd expect. He can work hard though, has an uncanny knack of winning the ball back, shows flashes of brilliant skill and can deliver a cross. Player of the season "by a mile", not for me. He may well end up POTS but he has to be more consistent in terms of the impact he has in 7/10 rather than 5/10 games in my opinion, and that's not 'just' scoring goals.

I'd start him, as I think Clarke has thrived against tired legs but it's more of a coin flip than it was at the start of the season.

I'd expect Cajuste to come back in today too.

If Taylor doesn't start Mullers, then what more can they lad do?

Same as Edmundson innit, he's just not that good is he? Running around a lot and showing effort is great but I don't think he's done enough to show he's the answer.

Fans just want to find something convenient because it's not been working. The expectations for both players are so far apart that I just don't think McKenna sees it the same at all. If he did Taylor would have played much sooner.

Cajuste not able to do 3 games a week and such a busy period coming up means he's going to get a shot.

I think you're doing Taylor a bit of a disservice there. I don't disagree that Cajuste is a far more talented individual but I question anyone in a midfield two who can't do more than 65 minutes of hard running let alone play the 3 games in a week you mention.

I too am not sure Taylor is THE answer. Actually, McKenna knew the answer months ago, it was Hayden Hackney wasn't it? If so, Hackney's energy, ground coverage, defensive tracking and forward threat are so different to the qualities that Cajuste brings that it would be a complete volte-face from the kind of player we were so close to signing permanently for £20 million plus.

Nowhere near the same class, but Taylor offers more of Hackney's traits than Cajuste ever will.

For the record, I would play a midfield three with Matusiwa at the base with Nunez and Cajuste slightly ahead of him and Taylor on the bench and Humphreys too. As McKenna will play the double pivot, I just don't see Cajuste as a feasible option. I might even have some of the same concerns about Nunez if I'm honest. Hence why I feel Taylor, the least talented of our midfielders (including Humphreys btw), is perversely our best option there currently. Having said that, even he is better suited to a midfield 3.

Bottom line is, the failure to sign Hackney after a prolonged chase (or someone of his ilk) is causing us problems to which I don't think our recruitment yet has the answers.

Who would get your vote?

I can only think of Matusiwa as a challenger and he’s been off it the last few games.

Philo wins hand down for me.
