| None of Jaden, Clarke, Akpom or Szmodics have a single assist this season 12:31 - Nov 5 with 1775 views | NedPlimpton | That's really worrying, isn't it? That suggests that we're very disjointed up front. For all of the possession, XG and 'touches in the opposition box' I still feel that we look toothless. There were signs of improvement last night with a couple of chances you'd expect to be put away being missed, but with 3 away games in a row and the likelihood of a fair bit of squad rotation i'm just not feeling confident that we're suddenly going to be more prolific | | | | |

I wouldn't call 10th in the league with over a quarter of matches played a success. Would you?

Is Lee Grant really what we're missing? People seem to be making him out as the Messi of finishing coaches lately. I'd understand if his Huddersfield team were averaging 3 goals a game but they're currently 4 goals behind us against arguably worse opposition. We're also 3rd highest scorers in the league behind a ridiculous Coventry City attack and a bizarrely crap Hull City. Still think a couple of those lads yet to score this season will go on a run once they get that first one off their left bolloc...

That’s a dreadful statistic isn’t it ? Don’t we practice shooting in training ? Still gelling I suppose………………….
| None of Jaden, Clarke, Akpom or Szmodics have a single assist this season on 14:52 - Nov 5 with 379 views | HighgateBlue | The difference between two of those and the other two, is that the first two actually score plenty of goals themselves, whereas the other two have no league goals. I fail to see how that's even possible this far into the league season for a team which consistently has more possession and more touches in the oppo penalty area. Are our number 10s useless, or is the way our 10s are being asked to play flawed? It's surely one or the other. Totally agree with you on the 'toothless' thing. It's not an optional extra to be able to finish, it's entirely fundamental and intrinsic. It's possible to concede many goals and win. It's possible to have hardly any possession or shots and win. But it's not possible to win without scoring. We're 16th in the table for converting xG into goals. We simply won't get promoted if that continues. We've scored a decent amount overall this season, but 43% of our goals have come from just two matches (Sheff Utd, QPR). We have startling stats this season in terms of our shots actually finding the target. Akpom is 10 shots, 2 on target Azon is 17 shots, 5 on target These aren't good enough for the positions they play. Sindre is a hell of a talent, only young, new to English football, and plays on the wing. But zero on target from 14 should not be considered acceptable. Nunez is 3 from 20, but his two free kicks maybe buy him a free pass on that for now. Clarke and Philogene materially outscore their xG, but the rest of their attacking colleagues heave very weak stats in that regard, especially from open play. | | | |

Well you were dismissing the non goalscoring as a concern because we had two games where we scored 9 goals. 13 goals scored across the other 11 games isn't good.

| None of Jaden, Clarke, Akpom or Szmodics have a single assist this season on 13:08 - Nov 5 by chicoazul | Assists are the dumbest bluntest stat in the world. You can have Arnold Muhren in midfield but if you have Samassi Abou up front Arnold Muhren won’t get any assists. Chance creation is a much better stat. |
Agreed. Although what constitutes a chance is more contentious, also 'big chance'. I genuinely don't know how these are done. If it is to do with xG, then for most people that is pretty opaque, although at least it purports to be as objective as possible, rather than simply relying on a subjective eye test. I'll try to stop banging on about how few of our shots go on target, but your theoretical objection to the 'assist' stat is more than just theoretical in our particular case. Muhren and Abou may have been chosen for effect/amusement, but this is the very problem that we have. We create chances, we have shots. The shots don't go on target, and hence we don't score as many goals as we should. If we give away a silly goal a game (which we almost always do), we then have to score 2 in a game. Scoring 4 or 5 in games once the floodgates have opened is fantastic, but we need to be scoring a couple in a game more frequently. For every West Brom, where we finally made the breakthrough just in time, there's a Charlton (where we didn't make the breakthrough and then imploded) and a Watford (where we draw because we can't make the breakthrough).

I'm aware, But it's the dropped points that run with those stats which is our problem, If we were third highest scorers and in the top three it may be ok, but we're not,
| None of Jaden, Clarke, Akpom or Szmodics have a single assist this season on 16:34 - Nov 5 with 145 views | runaround | The problem with assists is as a stat they are flawed. For example the Watford player who set up their goal yesterday won’t get an assist as his cross deflected off O’Shea before Louza scored. A lot of excellent play and play that makes a goal doesn’t feature in assist stats. We got one assist last night and should have had 3 or 4 more but the players on the end of those chances couldn’t hit a cow’s backside with a banjo at the vital moments. I suspect we underperformed on XG last night but overperformed on it Saturday. So many stats out there all which can be used to promote a persons agenda one way or another | | | |

Don't see this "disinterest" from him at all to be honest Thought he was battling for everything last night and clearly getting annoyed when things weren't falling for him. Same in most of his recent performances
| None of Jaden, Clarke, Akpom or Szmodics have a single assist this season on 19:53 - Nov 5 with 54 views | Smoresy | Jack Clarke is 22nd in the league for 'expected assists', despite playing a pittance of minutes compared with those ahead of him. He's been wronged by those in the middle lol. He's 2nd of Ipswich players behind King Leif, who's 13th in the league for this stat. On a per 90' basis, we have 1st (Young), 3rd (Clarke), and 16th (Nunez) in the division for xA among our ranks, which lends to a brighter assessment of our chance creation. Fleshing out why the end result is a pitiful 'nul points' for our tricky widemen, we also have 3rd and 4th in the division for big chances missed among our ranks (Hirst and Azón, both on 8). Indeed, we're leading the way for big chances missed as a team this season, 30, five ahead of Birmingham in 2nd. We're 2nd for big chances created, 43, two behind Coventry and seven ahead of Brum in 3rd. We're 2nd for shots on target in a game and unsurprisingly we're also 2nd for 'expected goals'. Yesterday was another Ipswichy performance in front of goal alas, in which a couple more deserved to update their assists column but were denied again. Above said, Sammie is 260th on the xA per 90' list and Akpom is 339th. They haven't played a pass between them worthy of an assist yet. They have missed 6 big chances combined (3 apiece), so are finding the odd good shooting position in a game, but not to the extent that they're high up on the 'expected goals per 90' list either. The 10 position has stuttered so far. | | | |

Have they created decent chances that have been missed? Clarke stuck one on Azon's head last night with a great cross... Another day, that's an assist? We just won 4-1 away... I'm not stressed about the away fixtures. In which we tend to be given a bit more space in the wing positions.. |
Azon should have scored two headers, not been impressed yet by his finishing.
