I have always felt they are easier to remember than a random array of numbers and letters.
As an immature 20 something some 30 years back. I was reported for excessive speeding and a wreck-less overtaking manoeuvre in Westerfield. I got off a possible charge as the person incorrectly remembered my number to the police. Too much doubt to take it to court. |  | | |

In the 80s in Stowmarket there was a Polish man who had the number plate ITV1 (its poss it was 1 ITV, memory is slightly hazy). I've often wondered how much that was actually sold for, if they ever sold it as I know one family who will never sell/or reuse the personal plate their granddad had. |  | | |
