While promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs in the 2025/26 season remains the Club’s primary objective, the Directors recognise that in the event of non-promotion, additional funding, whether through further player sales or external financing, will be required beyond current commitments Sargent for £7 mill in January thank you. Plus, he has a very good goalscoring record and contracted until 2028. No way will he go for 7M. Times that by two and you’re sort of there.

Selling him in Jan virtually admits they are down too but I guess this could be their last chance to get top dollar for him?

He wasn't being bought for that prior to his and their slump.

Could be - what with 2026 being WC Year, especially so as it’s in the US, he might well be pushing his agent for a move.

Would be absurd, wouldn't it ? But, honestly. The way they've disregarded there fans over last 12 months or more. It's not an impossibility. Imo.. Pop corn out and login to Pinkun if that were to happen..

Today they argue about the merits of Pulis and whether he is or is not a dinosaur and the merits of data as opposed to character (as if it''s one or the other). They seem to be stuck in a crippling, delusional state grounded probably on their perceived success (for that club) of their yo-yo years and self-funding model (admirable as that may have been). The rest of football, certainly at Championship level, seems to have moved on to a pragmatic and dynamic way of thinking/recruiting/playing while they are stuck in the past. It will take them down to a League One which will probably be too modern and dynamic for them in the short term as well. Lovely old job.

Hasn't scored at all since the end of August. Can he do all the hold-up and harrying work required of a No. 9 in McKenna's system? Would he be happy to play the off-the-bench role with the same energy and enthusiasm as Azon? Who do we cut from the 25-man squad to bring him in?

I keep humming and hahing about Sargent. On balance, I think we want someone better (and tougher!) who's maybe a year off PL ready and to get that we probably have to be looking abroad. (Ivan might well be that player, but we need another.) Sargent would be funny, and OK in rotation with Hirst and Ivan, but not really the sort of step forward we ought to be taking.

Added to that he was, in the not so distant past, a bit of a sick note. I’m sure he will want a move in January to improve his World Cup chances but, like you, I’m not keen on him.

That's definitely the approach they'd like to take, but I'd absolutely laugh myself into a hospice if he (or general circumstances) forced their hand. It seems that Attenasio all but admitted that their 2025/6 planning involved selling Sargent, so I'd assume that there'll be a need to sell him in January. Similarly, JS' recent 'no service' comments suggest that he's not all that happy at Carrow Road. Not selling him to Ipswich in January very much depends on there being other interest at their price point, and JS actually wanting to move to said other club. Alternatively, if he's settled in the area, wants to re-connect with Nunez, or just wants to move to Town, he could force the matter himself. "Boss... about that Ipswich interest. I know you don't want to sell me to them, but I thought I'd better let you know that my throat has started to feel a bit scratchy this morning." If push came to shove, it feels to me that they would be better able to deflect the blame onto the player with Sargent than they were able to with Nunez.
