| Daniel Furlong on 17:23 - Nov 9 with 2181 views | DJR | We had enough in the box to defend it, and Taylor in particular seemed to get rather stuck in no man's land. What I think we have a habit of is not staggering our positions in the box, and this applies both offensively and defensively. EDIT: looking it again, Matisewa, Taylor and Clarke all seemed rather lackadaisical, given you can never assume that the cross won't come in. [Post edited 9 Nov 17:32]

Think the cut back being missed by the first player in line caught people out but did think an opposition player getting a free shot at goal from the edge of the box is the sort of thing people on here have been screaming at Cajuste for allowing to happen (regardless of he was actually near it). Having just watched it back I think that's actually pretty poor awareness from Taylor to be honest. Ball watching and not even glancing to see if there's anyone near him.

Yes but the first mistake is not stopping the cross in the first place as any defensive coach would point out .

It was poor from Nunez, Furlong and Taylor. Annoying that we hardly gave Swansea a chance yet opened up as easily as we did for Watford’s sole good chance on Tuesday. I’m delighted with the win but, on reflection, 2-0 with a clean sheet might have been more satisfying.

Two very similar goals too, slightly ironically in the style we used to score a lot with Chappers

We seem to be going through a phase where the opposition score from very few chances. Odd for the Championship. I thought with Saturdays once the ball trundled across the box, everyone was wrong footed so the key was stopping the cross in the first place. Oh well, Swansea were well and truly thumped by the end and that’s all that mattered. Good performances from a number of the players including Taylor, Nunez, Clarke and a much needed goal from Azon meant we really couldn’t ask for more.

It's reminiscent of that run from November to mid-February in the League 1 promotion season. Annoying draws with Cheltenham and Fleetwood via Wycombe, Lincoln, Cambridge (although they had a penalty too). Clearly we got out of that rut and only conceded two in however many games it was, not sure we'll quite manage that this year but I'm hoping that because the fundamentals are generally good - i.e. we don't give up many chances - we will stop these annoying goals soon.

Though he had a great game I saw that in Taylor, were in the 18 yard box 4 players and Walton behind him and never attacked the goal scorer I thought it was weird at the time, Move quickly in front of him narrows where the ball can go,

| Daniel Furlong on 10:51 - Nov 10 with 706 views | FrimleyBlue | Are they any stats out there to compare the number of crosses into our box in comparison to previous seasons. Im under the belief that allowing crosses into our box was always a weakness of ours from either side but we'd clear most of the balls that came in. On Saturday it looked like our defensive line in the box was ok, but the 2nd line didn't pick up players coming into the box. There was an attack at one point where there were 2 swansea players, think maybe 17 and 20, can't quite remember, but they were both just outside our box at the time a cross was coming in and neither had a town player with them.. I had a chat on the weekend on here about zonal defending and if that's our issue rather than individual players not picking up a man | |
