Swansea “trainers” on Saturday… 08:25 - Nov 10 with 3857 viewswitchdoctor

any one on here?….loads of Town fans were…

as you all know there was a 40 odd minute delay leaving and I kinda heard an announcement about compensation…didn’t pay much attention to the it but when I logged into my trainline account it said I was due compo…when I clicked on it it seems they are willing to refund me the FULL amount we paid for both our tickets..£124 !!

Only snag is you have to post off original paper tickets in order to get it….we’ve only got our return tickets so hopefully will at least get half the refund…🤞

I don't use trains very often, but it feels like I get some form of compensation more often than not. I had one a few months ago that was a full refund due to a big storm cancelling all the trains. Felt generous as that was out of the their control, and I made the same journey the following day for free.

Never had to post the tickets in before though, always just sort it online.

Our train out of Paddington was packed and many had to stand pretty much all the way to Swansea. I heard rumours that it was supposed to be a 10 coach, and it was only a 5. It was 15 minutes late arriving at Swansea, so perhaps I'll try to get a little back, but don't hold out much hope.
Coming back, the train out of Swansea was definitely short of carriages as our booked seats were in carriage D, and there was no carriage D!!! Needless to say there were a few idiots trying to claim seats and being quite obnoxious.
Meadowlark's train tip: If you get a paper ticket, take a photo of it, just in case you lose it or the barrier machine swallows it.

If you were on the 6.23pm, it’s because the other five carriages were coming from Carmarthen and joined the back five waiting at Swansea, about five minutes before departure. They weren’t very good at informing people - I assume the train’s not normally that busy so they didn’t feel the need.

We were on the 18:23 home. Had people (Town fans) sat in our seats and we asked them a few times if they'd move, to be told "well we had to stand up the whole way here" right, ok, how is that my problem?!

Maybe the obnoxious ones were those sat in others reserved seats?

They said they'd move if the "reserved lights" came on. The lights then came on, but we had seats by then so didn't bother to request they move.

I thought the trains were an utter disgrace Saturday, £103 for the privilege too.

we were also on that train and had seats on b which wasn’t there when we arrived..guy on the platform said to go in first class which we did…much to the chagrin of the ticket inspector who came round expecting us to pay for the upgrade…which we cheerfully did….NOT…😂😂😂

Yes, I saw some of this too on the way back. The situation was undoubtedly caused by the train operators. Not enough carriages, allowing people to book carriages that don’t exist and also the staff on the platform telling people to sit where they like.
I did think some of the people suggesting others move was overly rude and aggressive and not called for. I certainly saw one younger girl crying to her dad about an exchange she’d seen and heard another lad say to his dad as I got off the train that a similar exchange had ruined his day. Regardless of the right and wrong of who was sitting where that sort of thing is a shame.

Most station barriers/gates gobble cardboard-tickets up when your journey is complete. How are you supposed to have kept either of them?

We caught a train from Swindon and it was packed. None of the reserved seat indicators were working so when we tried to claim our seats we were told nobody was in their right seats. Fortunately being ‘seniors’ we were offered seats although our son had to stand until Bristol in another carriage. At Cardiff we were able to get seats together.

On the return journey we were on the train that had 4 carriages added. Luckily we got on 25 minutes before it left and got a table together. No reserved seat indicators again although people were trying to get their seats. Once again the train was crowded with a lot of people standing.

Completely agree this is the fault of the train operator. In this day and age how difficult is it to either make everyone aware that there are to be no reserved seats, or turn on the reserved light indicators before any boards the train.
At Plymouth away a couple of years ago they turned the lights on 5/10mins into the trip, and there was an almighty game of musical chairs!

My issue was the stupidity/arrogance of those sitting in people booked seats, trying to justify it with "I had to stand up on the way here"

I think that “stupidity” was simply doing what the guard was telling people. You might have seen different people but the group of middle aged/older gents I saw were the ones being rude, aggressive and arrogant IMO. I hasten to add I was in the right seat 😊

what’s being stupid doing what the guard suggested when the coach where you are supposed to sit isn’t even attached to the train?..I can only imagine there would have been loads of spare seats at the back of the train once the last five coaches were attached..

We certainly had a heated discussion over it to begin with, then about 2mins later sat down chatting ITFC, drinking and singing a number for Town songs from over the years.
A happy outcome

I had similar going home on the Sunday from Swansea a couple years back. 5 hours stood up in the doorway between Swansea and Leeds....not fun.

Been caught like that before and learnt my lesson. Either:

Tell the railway employee at the barrier you need the ticket for a delay claim and he'll check your ticket and open the gates for you.

or

If you claim compensation online and bought your ticket online (even if you print it off at a station rather than using one of the QR type tickets on your phone) your booking reference will suffice.

Can take a phone call or two, but persist with it, otherwise the train operating company makes a profit on a delay, because they are compensated by Network Rail for any network issues that cause the delay, so if you don't claim it off the TOC they trouser it !

Take it and run! We were on the same train and have been offered £30.96 between four of us?!?!

I was on this train also and heard the commotion. Lots of drunk fans and a grown man seemingly threatening people that were seated. All tickets were the same and it's a case of first come first served before any lights come on. Entitled people causing chaos and a scene who clearly can't handle their drink given the state of the toilets on the way back. Unfortunately we have some unpleasant fans for want of a better word although I guess all clubs do.

I'd challenge the word entitled being used if I'm honest.
A big chunk of money was spent on said journey, with a seat allocated as part of this.
I'd probably say entitled might be more better used against those that didn't then move from the seats once the reserved lights did go on.

That said, I didn't see anything more than a few early frustrations when first boarding the train. Which then evolved into the same people chatting and laughing for the duration of the journey.

Didn't see any toilets that had been damaged either, so can't comment on that.

Surely when the lights came on those with reserved seats are "Entitled" to actually sit in their correct seats ? Knowingly sitting in the wrong seat then refusing to move is in my opinion an "unpleasant" fan. We have so many of these type of people. Can't remember them in League 1.....

I meant entitled at the point of time when lights were not on. The people sitting down originally would have also paid good money. There was definitely a aggressive coming together for a short while but admittedly it did calm down after that. It mainly only bothered me because I was with my 10 year old son otherwise it would not have so much.

On a brighter note just got 1 adult and 1 child return for Leicester at just £31 which seems very reasonable.
