| Morsy's Plans 11:06 - Nov 11 with 2761 views | LA_Tractor_Boy | Has anyone heard any whispers about Sam Morsy's plans for the future. As he's been released by Kuwait SC, I assume he must be training somewhere if he plans to join a club in January. Or maybe he's got his feet up somewhere and has semi-retired. Obviously most would love to see him back here in January, but surely it can't/won't happen if he's not trained or been on the hobnobs for 4 months. | | | | |

| Morsy's Plans on 14:28 - Nov 11 by nrb1985 | “People care about more than just money” LOOOOOOOOOOOOL - brilliant. Mate, you’re talking about a bloke who gave up being captain of one of the top 20-30 clubs in the country, playing in front of 30k people who adore him every week to go and play in front of one man and his dog and live in a desert. I think you’d be hard pressed to make an argument he did this for any reasons other than a massive tax free wedge. And good on him! I’d have done the same. |
Well there was 1 reason...

| Morsy's Plans on 14:25 - Nov 11 by Churchman | Nothing would surprise me. They were heavily into automation 10 years ago. One of the big projects was called MTD (Making Tax Digital). Real time online tax, basically. It was a massive but got hideously delayed thanks to Brexit (Project resources were all switched to that). Where it is now I’ve no idea. I’m not sure AI can ever replace people expertise and judgement though, especially when it comes to agreeing settlements. I’m seeing a former Tax Inspector mate tomorrow - I’ll ask him. |
Yes please that would be interesting. Don't forget to boo him as well. On a serious note, the costs of monitoring and administering such a complicated tax system must significantly eat into any net increase in tax take from "catching" people who are here more days than they should be? I don't know why we maintain such a convoluted and difficult to understand system. No wonder well meaning people like Rayner et al fall foul of this - it's barmy. [Post edited 11 Nov 14:44]

Oh, I boo him all the time - even when he’s advising me on IHT! He’s a Newcastle following Geordie too so gets doubly booed and abused. Only fair. Cost of administering tax regimes? sure it does eat into the take. It’s very complex and those that do the work require huge amounts of training and need experience to do the job properly. I heard some years ago that the U.K. had double the number of taxes of any other country.

"I heard some years ago that the U.K. had double the number of taxes of any other country" Doesn't surprise me, lunacy. The old non dom regime with which I primarily worked with wasn't fit for purpose. Absurdly complicated trying to seperate gains and income etc etc. I thought when Hunt initially mentioned scrapping it that we would end up moving to an Italian style scheme. Alas, the new one is just as complicated and (in my view) will end up losing money for the exchequer. A good booing definitely order.

That wouldn’t surprise me. When looking at proposals, money raised or lost was always considered, hence employing experts - tax specialists, statisticians, economists you name it. The Minister would then be given costs/benefits as part of the scoping and he could then decide on whether it was to go ahead. The tories stopped ‘doing experts’. The people who did the work were no longer allowed to even see the minister (Chancellor) or his junior dudes. The special advisor (SPOC) was the best you could hope for who would relate information, sanitise it or ignore it. The Minister knew best so they would decide. That’s how Truss and the Cabal fell down a hole. They refused to seek advice or do the prep work. Fag packet politics. It’s not hard, thanks to politics, to see why numbers of taxes have grown. Smoke and mirrors. I don’t think they care whether they raise money or not when it comes to it. That would mean doing something for the benefit of the country when doing something for the benefit of themselves is far more important.

Booooo! There’s a reason why I have Waldorf and Statler as my avatar. They can join in the booing! “It was wonderful!" "Bravo" "I loved that!" "Oh, it was great!" "Well... it was pretty good.." "Well it wasn't bad..?" "Well there were parts if it that weren't very good though." "It could have been a lot better!" "I didn't really like it.." "It was pretty terrible!" "It was bad!" "It was awful!" "Ah! It was terrible!" "Get 'im away!" "Eh, boo!" "Booooo!"

| Morsy's Plans on 11:42 - Nov 11 by Guthrum | Apart from a sentimental attachment to a good player and top Captain from the past, I'm not sure why people are so desperate to see Morsy return to Ipswich. Things are now coming together in the new-look midfield, with younger players (notably Matusiwa, Taylor and Nunez) growing into their roles. Where does he fit, except as a reserve in case of injury crisis? What of O'Shea's development as Captain? I know John Wark kept coming back, even into his late 30s, but he was among the greatest of all time, at the very top level. Much as I loved Morsy, he isn't that. Plus Wark was able to play in a number of positions, so had that useful flexibility to fill in. Yes, McKenna has said he'd love Morsy to have stayed. But it didn't happen, so the club has been forced to move on. Players have been hired, structures rearranged, turning the clock back requires a complicated reset. And what of next season? Morsy will turn 35, won't have become more mobile, be even more vulnerable to the issues in the Prem (should we get there) which fans were grumbling about last time. Should we freeze out the future for a hopeful attempt to rerun the past? |
If Nunez continues to operate in the 10 (and he should IMO) then we only have 3 CM options and perhaps most crucially one who can play like Matusiwa. Things are improving a bit now but we’re still short of on-pitch leadership so I can’t see any downside to Morsy coming back. He can play the Matusiwa role in case of injury or suspension, he knows the club, and he’s a leader. All good things to me.
