Countless times he had the ball on the half way line with a chance to give Walle Egeli something to run onto. And he passed behind Walle Egeli. I know Walle Egeli is left footed and sometimes likes to cut back. But Furlong never gives him a choice. Hirst's first goal against QPR showed the power of giving Walle Egeli something to run onto and cross with his right. Notably it was O'Shea, not Furlong, that passed to Walle Egeli in that instance. Sums up what is wrong with our team at the moment. Too many players making lots of very small mistakes that impede our momentum.

He’s as good as anyone we’ve had in that position and with him and Egeli we look a much better balanced team, able to switch it as we did at times. I didn’t think about it at the time, but you are right. Furlong played in front of me first half and he did pass to and behind Egeli too often. I also think his final ball on crosses isn’t the best. I agree with your last paragraph too. Yes, too many players making small mistakes is dragging us back. That and an inability to find the right combination up front. I would like to see Nunez and Hirst start every game, subject to fitness. The former is a pain of a player for the opposition and improves the tempo of the team. Hirst? Not his best season but he is mobile and moves people around. [Post edited 23 Nov 9:06]

Maybe in the transfer window look for an attacking full back like Leif. Maybe in the meantime give Harry another chance or Ashley.

Time after time he is there with space infront of him but we delay it, going sideways, backwards or walking it out. Therefore, more often than not when he eventually does get it, he either has a defender up his 'arris and is facing our goal or the space he had infront of him is now occupied by a opposition full back, fronted by an opposition midfielder doubling up. KMc laments the reduced ball in play stats but for me it's OUR lack of tempo across the team that lets us down in many games. We actually play into the hands of low and even mid-block teams at Portman Road, especially if we don’t score in the first 20 minutes.

Good sides mix up the tempo with their passing. There will be times when the passing is slow and laboured and then they burst into life with quick incisive passing through the lines. For me, and I raised this point yesterday, our passing is all done at the same speed, which for the opposition is brilliant it doesn’t pull them out of shape, doesn’t create space and invariably the passing is all done in front of you from one side of the pitch to the other. I just find it strange that KM and his staff can’t see that for themselves?

Agree, we have Ashley Young, yes he's 40 but how an earth he's not getting game time especially at home is beyond me.

Said this before when we failed to break down another low block. Surely when there's so little space to overlap you couldn't ask for a better deep crosser of the ball than Ashley Young.

Spot on. On the few occasions we inject tempo, we look a real threat. It just doesn't happen frequently enough.
