Second half he managed to give the ball away dangerously twice near the edge of our box in about 5 seconds after Taylor had bailed him out. That said, he's class overall. Gets about the pitch and anticipates danger well.

This is true - but his recovery from those errors is also fantastic overall.

You can't help doing the comparison with Morsy, and Azor's not yet up to Morsy levels of possession retention and being the pivot for the baiting of the press - and I'm not sure anybody can really match the Egyptian King for that - but by the great god Ra and the weeping eye of Horus, the other side you mention how he 'gets about the pitch and anticipates danger', he is absolutely phenomenal in that. I also think he's taught the rest of the team how to tackle without fouling, which he's been pretty masterful at since he got here. We're not giving away so many silly fouls as we were earlier in the season, fouls from from trying to win everything rather than apply enough pressure to force the opponent into losing the ball. That seems so much better now, Greaves particularly but right across the team too. The low ball in play thing has been partly because we've been giving refs the option of blowing up too much. We're making really good progress on the team defensive side of things and Matu is central to that. The attacking might well start to click a little better now with other players starting to score - then we're properly off and running.

Yes, that tackle back on the edge of the box after losing it the first time was superb, even if he did then go and lose it again two seconds later.

Other downside is that we don’t have anyone else like him in the squad should he get injured or suspended so we are little exposed in that respect. [Post edited 26 Nov 8:40]

Morsy could also be guilty of that sometimes. Probably more a function of how we play out from the back and the risks players have to take with the ball. Slip-ups will occur, especially when a team is marking our men so closely and energetically as Hull last night.

I think he is a terrific player with more to come. I was chatting to my seat neighbour on Sat and he reckoned Matusiwa isn’t a patch on Sam Morsy. I disagreed. I think he’s a better player than Sam - but Sam of course was a real Captain and influencer and you cannot put a price on that. Azor is prone to giving the ball away in bad areas at times and hopefully that’s something he will work on. It’s easy to forget that he’s only been here a short while and injury permitting will improve. Good player.
