Pitch didn't help with the passing first half last night 08:50 - Nov 26 with 617 viewsjasondozzell

We're going through that winter period that KM has always referred to since he came here in terms of heavy pitches.

Our style of play gets thrown off as soon as the ball doesn't run.

That said passing was sloppy first half.

But excellent away win. This group is resilient.

Matusiwa is an incredible player.

Time to adapt our game a bit then?

I thought it was more down to the very close marking by Hull. Passes are more likely to go astray and players be dispossessed when there's an opponent (or two, or three) right on top of them.

Even when we managed to get balls to our people out wide, it was then very difficult to get it back to anyone in the area (either by crossing or dribbling) for an attempt on goal.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

It was just a little bit slow I thought. Add in that some of the first touches were pretty poor (Nunez the main culprit) and the first 60 minutes made for a pretty tough watch.

I still feel like the curse of the number 10 position is the biggest reason for that. We really need to find someone that can play in between the lines and switch the play quicker. Taylor did a great job of doing that from midfield when he came on to be fair.

Egeli? Thought he made a real impact when he came on (albeit he started on the right)

We can't use the weak excuses of people playing a low block or heavy pitches.

Pitches are amazing all year round these days.

As a parachute team we have every advantage going.

Please, no more excuses.

Exactly.

The excuses infuriate me.

I noticed that, pitch seemed to play slow so some of our passes first half didn’t find the intended target. As somebody else has said, players need to be able to adapt to the conditions.

Which they seemed to do better in the second half. The fact McKenna referenced the pitch in his post-match comments suggests maybe they spoke about it at half time.

Maybe I'm in the minority but my take on the game is, we scored and then we played better, because Hull had to open up. Up until after the goal, I don't think we played any better than the first half, maybe slightly more attacking intent.

Otherwise, it would have ended like the Wrexham game. We do need to be better at breaking these teams down. We seem to be so slow moving the ball around so it becomes easy to defend against.

Agreed, although I do hope that the players are bright enough to figure it out for themselves without having to wait until half time.

Agree with this. Once we got ahead Hull had to come at us for an equaliser which opens the game up and suits our style of play.

Agreed - think there have been a few instances of this type of thing where the 'group' haven't worked out what's going on in-match. Earlier in the season it was adjusting quickly to where the referee was setting the bar for physical contact - in recent matches (since the Matusiwa/Philogene bust up that seemed to relate to that) we seem to be adapting more quickly than the opposition.

Hopefully we'll see 'reacting to pitch conditions' as something that's addressed now.

The passing was ok. Wasn't the worst wasn't the best

My gripe was how slow we were. I dont think its an over exageration to say cajuste was simply walking around in midfield. There was nothing to him.

I did however like our organisation off the ball. And I never felt like we were going to concede last night.

a niche perspective
