the combative energy of Szmodics up front?

Our slump and its symptoms do seem to have coincided with his absence.

Szmodics amongst many McKenna gets them trys to change them into a player they obviously are not. I'm not sure where this goes.
I must be a Norwich fan as I'm not a disciple of McKenna.

Not heard, has McKenna said anything?

Another player who has done very little since we signed him.

I don't think Szmodics is the answer. Since he got injured, we've won 3, drawn 3 and lost 1, so 12 points from 7 games which isn't great but is better than our overall PPG so far this season. We also won the game he got injured in after he came off. The lack of a functioning number 10 more generally is a big problem though. Akpom a few weeks back was showing glimpses but he's been poor since, I don't think Sammy has the quality on the ball we need, and Nunez for me isn't a 10. I wouldn't have let Chaplin go, personally, as he has more about him than our other options. Whether we'll see him back in January, who knows.

McKenna won't have players back a sign he was wrong to star with.

Based on what we have seen from him in an Ipswich shirt, I can't believe anyone thinks he can single handedly make the difference.

Think we're clutching at straws here hoping SS is the missing link.

He's been as anemic as Akpom and Nunez in that 10.

True, to a point, but I think the point Guthers makes is SS tends to really harry and work hard - he doesn't do 'slow'.

He's a tad more direct and very much a player who plays forward.

I suspect he'd inject a little more urgency to our play.

I think that’s a really good point , not sure he suits the ‘10’ however he certainly adds pace , energy and a fiery attitude to the side.

Only if you judge him by goals scored. I was thinking more about what he does to an opponent's defence, running them around, getting into awkward spaces, wearing them down. The gadfly never giving them any rest.

Nunez can also do that to an extent, but he instinctively drops deeper, looking for the ball.

Possibly a factor but the malaise seems to run much deeper than that, for me anyway.

The constant changes to the starting eleven are not helping, there is no intensity in our play, opposing managers know exactly how we set up and play and how to counter it. The worrying thing about last night was Blackburn were up for the game whereas we looked lethargic and devoid of ideas.

At Blackburn he was the Championship highest scorer - so je must be a threat upfront.

Can do on worst than our other strikers who are badly misfiring.

He's really not a striker though, he couldn't do the work we need our strikes to do.

Haven't we acquired more points in this "slump" in his absence that we acquired with him in the team?

Possibly we ask our strikers to do too much as they don’t seem to have that much of a goal threat.
