Is it wrong to bet against your own team? 11:40 - Dec 6 with 593 viewsTresBonne

I am personally of the opinion that it sort of spoils going to the match. Bit of a weird scenario. Not much of a “weekly” gambler but I like to have a couple of £100 bets on a year when I really think the odds are too good to ignore in a certain game/horse race etc.

Coventry at just over 2/1 today has been very tempting for one of said bets…but don’t think I can bring myself to back against my own beloved ITFC!

Don't do it. Instant bad karma.

Plus we're winning today.

I don't think those odds are screaming hugely generous to be honest. The Charlton game was a bit of an aberration, we've otherwise not looked like losing at home this season. Sure Coventry are full of confidence but they've looked a bit vulnerable at times lately too and player for player we've got more quality. I think we'll win today and I make a Coventry win the least likely of the three possible results to be honest.

I was at Spurs, years ago, when they were 3-0 up v the great Fergie ManU team at ht, Sheringham having missed a sitter for Spurs just before the break. In those days, there was a bookie in the stand. The queue of home fans betting on a ManU win was so long, the shutters came down for the 2nd half before they all got served. Final score? 3-5. As Beckham volleyed in the 5th, the entire North (home) stand actually stood and applauded.

I resisted, Leeds 3/1 at home to Liverpool however......

I don’t gamble, but if I did I certainly wouldn’t bet against my own team under any circumstances. Just couldn’t do it.

I once had £100 on Middlesbrough against Town back in the MM era when they were going for promotion and we had nothing to play for. He started Digby at CB. I'll have some of that free money...

Finished 0-0.

Under MM where we were "hard to beat" and he seemed to think losing by 2/3 was some sort of victory against the better teams with lots of investment it was harmless. But now? Now it means so much more and I couldn't do it.

Don’t forget to have a little sniff around those tasty Stoke odds on Weds…

This could work better than lucky socks and unwashed training tops.

Which one bit the dust…..dee or dum?….(What’s App group, Nov ‘25)

Stoke 4/1 on Paddy Power, Town 8/13, think I'll trust the bookies tbh.

I only do smallish spread bets, usually on American football and have done well the past two years. I rarely ever bet on my own team (or against). Against my own rules I put £10 a goal on us last week, which is also higher than I normally bet. Of course we lost and it cost me £25. I was sure that we would come good.
Serves me right. Won't do it again. More than happy just to take 3 points.
