| Jack Taylor 09:56 - Dec 11 with 734 views | Phantasm | Whilst Matusiwa is rightly getting a lot of love, I think JT deserves some flowers as well. This season he has - for my money - been like another new signing. I thought his usage in the PL season was entirely correct in so far as he looked like a L1 player (or lower end Champ) trying to mix it with the big boys, but this year he's been revelatory for me. The way he gets up and down (and indeed side to side) is the perfect complement to Azor, which says nothing for the way he can make a momentum-shifting crunching tackle in the middle of the park. I firmly believe he is just one of his customary pings into the top corner from about 40 yards away from really hitting his straps. Indeed, the moment where he had to go off for treatment I felt quite anxious not because it would mean turning to Jens Cajuste (I am basically the Chairman of the Jens Cajuste Fan Club) but because Taylor has made himself an integral cog in the machine. Keen to understand if I'm in the minority here or have actually got a good footballing brain on for once! | | | | |

Unfortunately for him he does seem an obvious one where we could significantly upgrade if we are willing to spend the money, someone like Hackney or Louza. He's going to be important for the rest of the season anyway even if we do upgrade in January. SB

There's no doubt Cajuste has a lot of quality but Taylor brings us better balance, he's much more combative, and more of the Luongo type that does a lot of dirty work. He puts in a proper shift, I would imagine his teammates love playing with him. For me what's been most impressive this season has been his use of the ball. 1 or 2 exceptions aside (Oxford winner) he's shown a lot of composure, looked really neat & tidy on the ball and can certainly pick a pass. Feels like a bit of a throwback #8, proper box to box with a bit of everything to his game. I'd like to see him add a few goals and perhaps make a few more penalty area runs as he's definitely got it in him, but what he's doing between both boxes at the moment is a big part of our upturn IMO.

Both have great engines. Both are intelligent footballers. And they feel like "equal partners" to me: Taylor alongside Morsy should have had the same virtues, but Jack didn't flourish in the same way that he has alongside Matusiwa, and it felt like he was always in Sam's shadow. Luongo had phenomenal football intelligence, but was less mobile than Taylor. In my opinion Matusiwa plus Taylor are currently playing at a level at least as good as peak Morsy and Luongo. Cajuste should play as the 10 in my opinion, and swap minutes with Nuñez, but we need another box to box midfielder as cover for Taylor and Matusiwa.

Been vital for us so far this season and for me if fit he has to start alongside Azor week-in, week-out in the same way that Morsy and Luongo did for so long
| Jack Taylor on 10:16 - Dec 11 with 514 views | LankHenners | All people ever bang on about on here is how much Jack Taylor looks better in midfield than other players! Said before I don't quite agree with the hagiographies he's been getting but he does naturally sit closer to Matusiwa than either Cajuste or Nunez (when he plays deeper) do and keeps things simpler which does add a bit of solidity in there. Surprised he lasted as long as he did last night though as he looked noticeably leggy after going down in the first half and (while they never really did anything with it) Stoke were getting a lot of time in space in front of our defence from him being caught the wrong side of their attacking players. | |

He wasn't leggy. He was bloody ill and still turned in a top performance. SMH.

Yes I know he was ill and that's what made him look a bit off it. Surprised we didn't protect him because of that as seems a bit of an unnecessary risk to keep someone on in that condition.

Yep - and says a lot about where KM sees Cajuste (or at least his fitness) at the moment.
