Just got tickets for Blackpool, haven't been successful in ballots, so it's my first match for some time. Usually on my own, but this time I'll be with my son & 13yo granddaughter, her first visit to FPR (first visit to Ipswich at all).

My usual lunch venue on matchdays has been the Ararat Turkish, next to Coes on Norwich Road, but it seems that Ararat is no longer. According to Google Maps, something similar called Golden Grill is trading from there now. Are there any TWTD-ers out there who might be able to give me a report on Golden Grill, please? {No suggestions for alternative cuisines, please, certainly not the burger vans by the stadium!!).

Kervan Kitchen in Cardinal Park is good if you’re looking for a Turkish again.

It’s still always pretty busy whenever I’ve gone passed.

I don’t know but it might have just been a name change/new owner but same thing as before?

Different I know but I can recommend a good Greek restaurant down the road a bit, bloody lovely it is…

When did Bella Pasta become Turkish? Thanks for your reply, but nought out of ten for reading the question.

Just in case unaware, the ballot doesn't hold the importance that it did last season for home games, so don't be put off joining the Monday morning queues if you're unsuccessful in the ballots. Think most games are going all the way to general sale.

Thanks for that, but life here on the banks of the Medway isn't as easy as last year. Mrs MT has not been in the best of health, so much so that I have had to register as her carer. Anything more than an hour or 2 away from home needs a lot of careful planning. Fortunately, we have two sons & families nearby and some really good friends, but the sons have their own families to think about and there's only so much that friends can be expected to do. I suppose we should be thankful to have reached our mid 70's relatively unscathed.

Handy for the ground too.

Sorry to hear that. Didn't want a fellow blue to potentially miss out on games due to last season's lesson of how important the ballot was. Hope you enjoy the Blackpool game and someone may provide restaurant help.

I have not tried the latest iteration of Ararat but agree with you that it was brilliant before. When I’ve walked past recently it looks more casual than it did previously and that has put me off a bit. In terms of alternatives for Turkish food I think Ottoman is the best in Ipswich now (Woodbridge Road) but Kervan Kitchen is probably more suitable given the proximity to the ground (probably just as close a walk as Ararat but the other direction).

You could try The Wandering Partridge, a Mexican and English cuisine establishment in the pretty Suffolk village of Burgh. It's a little way out of Ipswich, but is highly recommended and is often frequented by actors from Coronation Street no less. The last time I was in there, Barbara Knox and Malcolm Hebden had selected a very nice piece of lemon-induced cod from the specials menu. Dogs are welcome and there's usually a lovely open fire glowing in the winter months. They also have "Geoffrey Whithead's Old Grumpy" on tap - a lively 5.5% dark ale.

Sorry, but another thumbs down for not reading the question. Also, anything with even the slightest connotation of links to the likes of Coronation Street goes straight in the bin.

I think you mean Bella Italia.

Please note: prior to hitting the post button, I've double checked for anything that could be construed as "Anti Semitic" and to the best of my knowledge it isn't. Anything deemed to be of a Xenophobic nature is therefore purely accidental or down to your own misconstruing.

I like Mahzan on Duke Street if your vibe is Turkish.

I'd gladly recommend Lucky's Souvlakis on the St Matthew's roundabout. Very good Greek cuisine.
