Travelling to Millwall 18:36 - Dec 24 with 3014 viewsfootball

Evening all - just popped on the 'Wall forum and seen this message if anyone was planning on travelling to this tube (which I was)

Just a reminder

https://www.millwallfc.co.uk/news/2025/november/14/important-information-for-lio

South Bermondsey Station will be closed over the festive period due to refurbishment.

Closing from Saturday 27th December to Sunday 4th January, Lions fans travelling by train to the home Sky Bet Championship fixtures against Bristol City (Monday 29th December, kick-off 7.45pm) and Swansea City (Sunday 4th January, kick-off 3pm) are advised to seek alternative travel.

In addition, a very limited service across all networks - with no trains stopping at South Bermondsey - will run on Boxing Day as Millwall play Ipswich Town (Friday 26th December, kick-off 1pm), meaning that supporters are advised to also check their travel arrangements ahead of time.

South Bermondsey isn’t a tube station.

Can tube to Bermondsey or Canada Water and it’s about a 20 min walk from them to the ground.

I think I’m going to chance my arm at parking in the housing estate near to the Sainsbury’s that bloody sold out, wish me luck.

Fair point - saw the bermondsey bit and didn't read the south before - I'll continue to Bermondsey tube
I should read things more closely

Should be parking around Surrey Quays - that is where I have parked before ok. This year parking at Stockwell but seems residents parking is suspended over Christmas so you may be ok in other places

Not been for a few years but used to park on Galleywall Road, off Rotherhithe New Road. Used to go in a rowdy home fans pub on the corner, Golden Lion, turned into flats now. Around 10 minutes walk. You pass a Greggs and convenience store which may be open.

The info on that Millwall page is inconsistent. To clarify, there are no train services into South Bermondsey on Friday. Tube is running, and nearest stations are Canada Water & Bermondsey, both on the Jubilee Line. From Canada Water there are buses to South Bermondsey, though it may be quicker to walk.

Note that the TFL website is also inconsistent in terms of routing and times, especially when it comes to buses. Its various options do work, but are not necessarily the quickest way.

Just looked down there on street view and seems it’s permit holders only there unfortunately.

Local authorities seems to be taking away all the free parking these days. Tossers.

Whilst the congestion charge will not apply on Boxing Day, ULEZ will, so anyone driving will need to check their vehicle is ULEZ compliant.

Here's a link.

https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/check-your-vehicle/

There's also a charge for using the Blackwell and Silvertown tunnels.

It is possible to set up autopay on the TFL website.

Was told this week Lewisham Council haven’t lifted their parking restrictions on Friday. It’s just Christmas Day and Easter Sunday. Some London boroughs operate differently apparently.
Don’t know how strict they’ll be on Boxing Day but I was advised not to park near the ground.

I swear it never used to cost to go through the Blackwall Tunnel! Looks like I'll head over Tower Bridge as that wont cost a penny.
And pretty annoyed that Ipswich have put parking meters and double yellows all around the ground now so just to pop to the ticket office or club shop for 10 mins you have to pay

When the Silvertown Tunnel was opened earlier this year, that and the Blackwall Tunnel became tolled.

Poll: What will be announced first?

I think it only came into force this year but no exemption on Boxing Day.

Depending where you are heading, another option would be the Rotherhithe Tunnel which doesn't yet have charges.

What I can't vouch for is how busy the traffic will be the more you head into London

Have booked someone’s driveway in Stratford and planning to get the Jubilee Line to Canada Water and walk to the ground from there. Seems pretty straightforward. Fingers crossed not too much that can go wrong!

I should rephrase that.

The not fun buses from the official travel club.
