| The club would be crazy to let Burns leave in January 10:13 - Dec 30 with 1543 views | billabasblue | Saw a fair few rumours about us letting him leave in January last week online and hopefully they are wide of the mark, whilst he may never be the same player he was it’s clear he still has plenty of ability and affinity with the club and is the most popular player we have by a mile from the fans point of view ! He needs to be kept at all costs at least until the summer IMO you can’t buy the kind of good will and team spirit he can add to what is a group of talented individuals hopefully getting closer to becoming a genuine team | | | | |

When we're allowed a squad of 23 players there's plenty of room for him, aside from his contribution on the pitch I think a few players with this ITFC era fabric in their DNA is worth its weight in gold, as well as the experience of 2 promotions in the past 3 seasons. I'd have both him and Chaplin in the squad tbh (if he fancied it). Not purely as mascots, they can contribute too, but should never underestimate the importance of that influence they have. Ultimately it's 22 games left to navigate, a lot of the hard work will be done outside of match days.
| Agreed on 10:23 - Dec 30 with 1399 views | Dyland | And what Bakers writes too. A possibly invaluable player and might just be the spark we need to fully ignite. If these players click (and the big ifs of avoiding injury*) we'll finish champions. *oh, and we can land a number nine and quality cover for Matisuwa :) COYFB | |

Agree with all of that apart from Chaplin unfortunately he hasn’t done anything at Portsmouth and wouldn’t get near our starting 11 and improve us currently , I get the team spirit piece and that’s massive but hopefully burns can add that part and also contribute ! I would rather remember Chappers for all the amazing goals and memories he gave us when he was at his peak rather than have the current version back !

Agree with this - love Chappers but no way he takes Nunez shirt. Useful backup maybe but think we should be building for the future now.

I don't think he would be a starter, and his heart would have to be in it, but as a squad option I'd have him for the run in. Aside from Nunez we don't have anyone who has looked comfortable in the 10 role, and while people say there's no room for sentiment in football I've never really agreed. A good squad is about much more than the best players, and while I can see why Chaplin would've fancied the move 'home', if he was up for returning in Jan and putting a shift in for 4 months I'd find room personally.

Was all about his injury innit. My biggest fear wa she simply wouldn't be the same player. But him being a supersub for this season might be perfect. Would also allow us to try Egelli in the 10 because he's struggling off the ball so much at RW. Poor old Furlong looked like Canute at times last night.

Agreed. McKenna couldn't wait to get him on the pitch. I questioned him being named in the squad in September but once he was, it was clear McKenna saw a role for him. To do that then let him go would have been very odd.

The fact he was registered in the 25-man squad even tho longish-term injured suggests likewise.

In addition, he offers something that no other Town attacker offers, and he is pretty handy at scoring. [Post edited 30 Dec 10:46]

Yes this is a valid point , if we won’t commit to a new contract in January for him and another side comes in giving him a 2 year deal at his stage of the career it could be a decision for him to make !

I hope that’s the case but my first thought when he came on briefly at milwall and last night was shop window. I do hope I’m wrong though. If nothing but the feel good factor.

Would make no sense to move him on. KM clearly doesn’t rate Ogbene (or thinks he doesn’t fit the system). Burns is a far more effective and technically superior player to McAteer so is a big boost to have him back.

I think it's one for the summer. By the n we will know which division we are playing in 2026/27, he will know how well his body is holding up after the long lay off and any new injury worries.

I think McKenna very much sees Burns as a ‘new signing’ for right wing. Helps him with a McAteer shaped hole in the recruitment strategy. And saves money in the transfer kitty for CF and CM which will be needed. I thought when we signed Egeli that although he was playing inverted he would be happy to go both inside and outside which is what we need on the right hand side. But he seems not to trust his right side at all lately. Burns adds that in spades. I can’t see another marquee signing on the right hand side of attack.
